Dasam Duar

Recommended Posts

I came across this pangti in Gurbani which forms part of a shabad by Bhagat Kabeer Jee on Ang 1123 of the Guru Granth Sahib Jee relating to the Dasam Duar.

ngrI eykY nau drvwjy Dwvqu brij rhweI ]

There are nine gates to the one city of the body; restrain your mind from escaping through them.

iqRkutI CUtY dsvw dru KUl@Y qw mnu KIvw BweI ]3]

When the knot of the three qualities is untied, then the Tenth Gate opens up, and the mind is intoxicated, O Siblings of Destiny. ||3||

I would be grateful if the Sangat could let me know is meant by the three qualities which need to be untied before the Dasam Duar opens.

The nine enterences and exits in your body...2 eyes 2 ears 2 nostrils 1 mouth and for the male n female have the 2 in the gential area..we only decide to live in those..only opening the 10th can bring true control...

but the 3 qualities you wanted to know are to hear to see and to breathe...when we only live in those the 10th well be reveald..the bliss obtained is unexplainable....

when you rise above the worldly senses then the tenth door opens.Simple as that.

Literally, Trikuti means the point between the eyes symbolising the physical brain which is the organ where all worldly senses are communicated from various parts of the body.

i agree there is something to do with a point btw your eyes.. but it doesnt represent the brain...the bhani as nothing to do with the brain...the tip of our nose when we concentrate lookin only there is the purest form of meditation...you seek to find him..this is where he'll reveal him self to you

the tip of our nose when we concentrate lookin only there is the purest form of meditation

As per my understanding, in sikhi there is no concept of trying to concentrate at a particular point as prevalent in the hindu's/yogi's

The following pangtee clarifies where the concentration should be

Duin mih iDAwnu iDAwn mih jwinAw gurmuiK AkQ khwnI ]3] (ang 878)

The form of meditation is Naam Jaap and when we totally get lost in the Naam Jaap and are oblivious to our surroundings (override wordly senses) then we enter the tenth gate as said by GuruSahibJi

nau drvwjy dsvY mukqw Anhd sbdu vjwvixAw ]3] Beyond the nine gates, the Tenth Gate is found, and liberation is obtained. The Unstruck Melody of the Shabad vibrates. ||3||(ang 109)

GuruSahibJi makes it crystal clear again in a different shabad

'font-family:GurbaniWebThick'>nau dr Twky Dwvqu rhwey ]

Those who close off the nine gates, and restrain the wandering mind,

dsvY inj Gir vwsw pwey ]

come to dwell in the Home of the Tenth Gate.

EQY Anhd sbd vjih idnu rwqI gurmqI sbdu suxwvixAw ]6]There, the Unstruck Melody of the Shabad vibrates day and night. Through the Guru's Teachings, the Shabad is heard. ||6|| (ang 124)

So i doubt it very much that we have to concentrate at the tip of the nose and definetely am sure that the purest form of meditation is as described in the pangtian from ang 124 of DhanDhanSiriGuruGranthSahibJiMaharaaj. ^_^

Coming back to the first pangtee, posted at the start, iqRkutI CUtY dsvw dru KUl@Y it says Trikuti Shutai, taking the word CUtY the punjabi meaning is to be freed from Trikuti or to lose Trikuti. I am not a very learned person but to me it makes sense that Trikuti refers to the wordly senses in which we are engrossed due to the nine doors. So when we overcome/get freedom from Trikuti we enter the 10th door where we get the eternal bliss.

Bhul Chuk Maaf, i have only tried, maybe i am wrong and would be very happy if some enlightened soul can make the above pangtian more clear.

I know that this thread and post is about 13 years old, but it's never too late to answer the OP.

The reference quoted in OP is from ang 1123

ngrI eykY nau drvwjy Dwvqu brij rhweI ]

iqRkutI CUtY dsvw dru KUl@Y qw mnu KIvw BweI ]3]

ANSWER= The 3 qualities refers to the 3 modes or qualities of Maya. These are Satogun, Rajogun and Tamogun.

Bhagat Kabirji is referencing these 3 qualities in the pangti. When these 3(tre-gunn) are untied, then the 4th state/Chautha padh is attained via passage through Dasam Duar..

Some posts above have mentioned the 9 doors or Naun Darwajey. Now, these 9 doors have to be closed shut before the gupt,10th door/Dasam duar can be opened. The Dasam opens.and then the sevak's consciousness passes through this and leaves behind the Tre-gunn maya and enters the abode of the 4th dimension Chautha Padh.

    • Predominantly, yeah. england. By the way, the goreh built roads and trains in Bharat ('India') only to easily distribute the goods that they wanted to loot (this word was, also, looted by them when they were looting South Asia) throughout the continent before shipping all of it back to the uk. They did this only for themselves, so it is not a legacy for the people or country but merely a by-product that was left behind. That wealth included: cotton, textiles and metals, which started the industrial revolution in the 1940's/50's tonnes and tonnes of wheat, rice and grains that left millions upon millions of people starving to death through mass famine countless hundreds of trillions of pounds (~ 600), on which the uk economy has been built today historical Sikh artefacts that were 'forced' to be relinquished and are now kept in museums for profit Ironically, the money that Sikhs and other 'Indians' earn today is what, arguably, belonged to their ancestors. You might already know this but before the empire, Panjab was, apparently, one of, if not, the most literate and well-off places in the world. It had thriving industries created from home-grown materials and some of the mughals were investing some of their wealth too e.g. palaces. Now look at the state of it. The hindus and muslims are to blame for this, too, but the goreh started the trail of destruction, in my eyes. People can do their own research and decide for themselves on how they see them but from my experience, they're nice to your face but cunning behind your back. I'm not just talking about the middle-class elite but the common working-class too. You won't always hear or see them say it because it goes against their preferred method. As far as I'm concerned, they're all the same. According to a recent uk survey, 59% of the uk population are 'proud' of the empire and its colonial rule. I think that says it all.
    • I have a question, these Singhs are probably amritdhari so do they manage to get their paath done whilst in jail?
    • the attack happened on 30 September 2012 Mandeep Singh Sandhu and Dilbag Singh were sentenced to 14 years, Harjit Kaur was jailed for 11 years while Barjinder Singh Sangha received a sentence of 10 years and six months. I don't think they are out of jail @S1ngh source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-25316370
    • Mandeep Singh Sandhu (the bottom right), Dilbag Singh (second top), Harjit Kaur (bottom left), and Barjinder Singh Sangha (top first)
    • He is a military general for all of his life and above Sikhs were just a common folks. Big difference. That is not the point of the post. Can anyone update if they are up for any parole? Can we write them letters?
