Scientific journalism is notorious for not being scientific, and for misstating and exaggerating the scientific findings. 

If I had to guess, the scientists found a gene that makes people have adverse reactions to alcohol. 

I doubt, however, that increasing numbers of people are acquiring this gene.

If you disagree, please state the mechanism whereby this gene would spread.
