I've been reading some stuff from Nassim Nicholas Taleb (Lebanese)and he got into a bit of an altercation with Mary Beard  (the historian ) regards to people from Africa in the Roman Empire.

Quote

He also doesn't like Northern Europeans appropriating Greek culture as part of European culture

.

He sees the Mediterranean as one culture, interesting perspective.

Mate, that's exactly what I said in the philosophy pages of my 'Home Truths' thread...and I got crucified for it :hairan:

You see, at the end of day, it's not about what I or the Lebanese fella says because for this one only has to look at what the ancient Greek philosophers themselves had to say on the matter. They made it abundantly clear that they look to the east (Punjab etc) for inspiration on philosophy and guidance on civilisation and see the northern Europeans (especially the Germans) as uncivilised barbarians who could barely be taught to stand up straight let alone understand philosophy. But these northern Europeans, much later, wanted to preach an idea that they were superior to other races so they decided upon using science as a way of 'proving' their race was better.

(btw don't forget that philosophy is not just a science it is perhaps the greatest of sciences - also I'm kinda glad that my thread here has taken a science based turn because ultimately that is where I wanted to take it)

So they appropriated Greek philosophy because it's existence helped them make their point about their 'superiority'.

This theme of appropriation continues to this day. We know how the Indians treat us but they appropriate how dance and food culture because it helps them make a point to the rest of the world of 'great they are'. White society treat black people badly but they appropriate black music and dance when it suits them.

Now this is what I truly love about this Cheddar Man story - which in some way also encompasses the philosophical theme if we take into account the Harlem Renaissance / French Negritude movement of the 1920's in which black people sought to use the white man's own tool of enslavement (his language) against him. What the Cheddar man story reveals is that the thing that invented racism, made racism and kept racism alive for hundreds of years : Science ........is now the very thing that can be used to destroy it. That is not only truly incredible...it is truly wonderful.

You're that American Punjabi cuck who worships goreh, aren't you? Your name escapes me. Your prodigious use of LOL and undeniable air of mental retardation gave you away. Why don't you post with your regular account? We can get better acquainted. ?

she's always been fairly even headed even in the heat of the flames of misogynists like Taleb , she contends that as Romans were meritocracy based to some extent that Africans were also included in elite positions in society . Taleb gets wound up easily , everyone knows Romans picked up Greek culture and philosphical ideas and spread it Northwards to the outer parts of their empire , so if anglos are spouting greco-roman stuff then that's understandable as far as I remember Greece and Italy are part of mainland europe and have been since forever . Lebanese culture is very different and distinct and yet has more in common with middle eastern countries than other euro-Mediterranean cultures.

Well I think the bone of contention for Taleb was the BBC website that showed a regular Roman British family being black.

He took great offence to it because when we think African we think sub saharan Africa but the Roman provinces in Africa were around the Med. If you look at North Africa,  these guys look Mediterranean rather than sub saharan.

I guess he would take it more personally since Lebanese are decendants of Phoenicians who were sea farers who set up colonies on the North African coast that became the Carthaginian empire.

Though he did go over the top with Beard.

The likes of Taleb considers the Lebanese as the same as the Euro Mediterranean and he always uses the J2 gene to show that this is the case.

He even.considers the Lebanese dialect of Arabic not to be Arabic at all but it's own language.

considering roman provinces went down as far as nubia (southern eygpt) where you do get the negroid features it is a possibilty for there to have been black families but it was Beeb that stated typical not Beard who said it would not have been surprising . I mean napoli people are well dark much more than lebanese or indians who com off as pale ...

seems like Taleb has a problem being part of the arab nations , with it destructive path etc.

If Sikhs in the UK (considering that we are predominantly from Punjab ) married with British born Sikhs and not import spouses from Punjab, with our adaptation to the climate we could very well turn white.

Like Jews ? i mean that's how most Jews (considering their mid eastern background) today look like white people.

Yeah...like Woody Allen ?  :)

No but seriously, not all of them. Some of them, like Lord Alan Sugar, have reverted back to monolithic looks:

The Nubians around the South Egypt/North Sudan do not look like the typical Sub Saharan African.

That part of Africa along with the Somalis, Ethiopians and Eritreans have similar features compared to other Africans.

But it would very well been in the realms of possibility that they would be part of the Roman Empire since Egypt became a Roman province.

nubians: variable features and colour...BTW Cheddar man reminds me more of Australian aboriginal features including the light colour eyes which they have too

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
