What is the difference between Hindus praying to idols and Sikhs praying to a book?

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਾ ਖ਼ਾਲਸਾ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਫ਼ਤਹਿ ।

Firstly we need to remove the notion that has been applied on sikhi that Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is just a "book". The same jot (light of the divine) that passed from Guru Nanak Dev Ji to Guru Gobind Singh Ji was passed onto Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

Quote

ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸਾਰੇ

Bani Guru Guru hai Bani Vich Bani Amrit Saare

The Word, the Bani is Guru, and Guru is the Bani. Within the Bani, the Ambrosial Nectar is contained.

Regarding going to the mandir, take a look at this video by Bhai Jagraj Singh, he explains why we shouldn't bow to anyone but the guru using gurbani panghtis

Bowing out of respect and praying to seem different to me. The entire "book" is about praying and connecting directly to Vaheguru.

Seems like a constant trickle of weird topics from the guests. Why not join?

Like did your brother just really ask this and you really had no answer having of course read the Guru Garanth Sahib?

I have the understanding of a child and I think I could have thought of something.

I speak to my dead relatives but pray to Vaheguru. I don't feel that is worshipping my ancestors in place of Vaheguru.

I'm going to watch the video and defer to those with deeper understanding.

Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh.
