Haha don't take maximum time allowed to reply to my message again! Else I will reveal your 11 point plan to convert the youth to Hinduism to the Sangat.

How dare you try exposing me lol

Which Gurdwara do you have to go to in order to take amrit with the Akaal Takht Maryada?

Probably a SGPC Gurdwara if that's even a thing.

Otherwise you could just take it from anywhere and then follow akal takth maryada afterwards.

Again amrit is amrit.

lol what if the panj pyaray giving pahul aren't good at the rahit and give you a dodgy rehit, ie lack of respect for shastar and dasam bani probably like what sgpc and some "jathas" do all the time? What about if they cut part of Chaupai Sahib, or only read 3 banis?

@ipledgeblue (or anyone else) where do you recommend taking amrit? I will be taking amrit in the next 2 or 3 years maharaj kirpa. I want something to work towards.

Wjkk wjkf,

some sikhs here have mentioned Hajur Sahib and certain gurdwaras in Anandpur Sahib. I would include Buddha Dal and Dals in Tarna Dal such as Harianvela.

I'm going to mention here that I am likely to take pahul from one of these places sometime.

Things I look out for in panj Singhs giving pahul:

They don't just wear dress up bana and actually wear bana regularly. They also respect blue bana and carry blue nishaan sahib; preferable for panj to wear blue and definitely not kesri. I think even Uggardanti mentions blue, I am still trying to understand this bani when I sometimes read this paat for morning nitnem.. Maybe Bhai Nand Lal writings too?

They wear dumalla and not cultural pagh like I do (I need to go gurdwara to learn dumalla, Youtube videos aren't helping me) LOL

They wear kammarkasa and shastars, not a gatra with a small kripaan. They are also likely to ride/have horses (again something Guru Pita said that sikhs should have horses).

And also important, they read dasam bani regularly, and will know a lot of it as well. They won't cut Chaupai Sahib, Rehraas and Aarti Aarta like they cut it in Harimandir Sahib or like SGPC cuts these banis! You really don't want panj piyaray to cut out bits of Chaupai and not read Arril when taking Pahul.

They haven't always been though. Maybe they have become more Sant based in recent times.

Nihangs are like Taksal but they sort of have an extra 20% on the Sipahi side. It's actually really hard to put into words lol.

You're spot on about the practicality.

Despite SGPC being promoted as the standard these days, I would be more inclined to say Taksal is the all rounder.

I don't know how much Mehta Chowk Taksal practise martial side. I thought they learn things like horse riding from the Nihang Singhs. I believe these Taksals were mainly created for bani and santhiya so would mainly be run by Sants and Nirmalas, maybe even Udasis and Nihang Singhs like  Akali Baba Deep Singh in the past.

I reckon the modern Bhindra Taksal was more Sant like until Baba Gurbhachan Singh brought over some martial rehit from Buddha Dal, of which he was a Nihang Singh before they came to Taksal.

To be fair neither do I lol. I am going by what Taksalis themselves have said to me. You're spot on about Taksals role, I do believe they were more Nirmala-like in the past (try convincing them of that though).

I think you're also correct about Baba Gurbachan Singh, I think he actually took on a more, for lack of a better word, militant, stance to distance himself from the Nirmala/Saadhu image, hence the blue dastaar and Khalsa surname. From my own observations (which could well be off) my perceptions lead me to believe they are all rounders. Many Taksalis in the west and back home do lay quite a bit of emphasis on the martial side, of course nowhere near the same as the Dal though.

Some of it is probably just down to Jathebandi supremacy, considering yourselves as the "true Khalsa"! Lol

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
