Sikhs in Dubai and the UAE

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was wondering if there are any sikhs on here who live in Dubai?

I'm looking to move there soon and would like to speak to or meet other Sikhs (when I get there).

Also does anyone know any Sikh organisations and groups I could join?

There is really good Gudwara in Jabar Ali . The Sikh population is low in Dubai but there are Sikhs there.

I have always wondered what is the fascination with Dubai and the united arab emirates.

I hear so many desi people go on about this place like it is some mecca.

When all it is essentially is a place that discriminates against non muslims and bans them from building their own places of worship. except for a make shift house or other building that does not reaemble their faith.

So apart from that whats to love about this place?

😨

I would avoid those sikh organisations like the plague. They are hardcore darshan rogi chelas there and they have also started amrit sinchar without Dasam Banis.

Lol fair enough. There are worse countries in the Gulf that I've lived in though. I'm moving there for work.

Have you seen the purpose built Gurdwara in Dubai?

There is a Gurdwara in Dubai. Nishan Sahib is inside (as I think they can't fly it outside), and there are photos on the wall of the ruler (I cannot recall his name) visiting the Gurdwara. Other than that, it was a nice Gurdwara to visit.

Just had a look. Its amazing. Wish we had a Gurdwara like that in the UK. Amazing design inside out.

I liked how plain and simple the decor was. Nothing to overpowering.

It's a nice gurdwara aesthetically and there are good Gurmat activities like santhiya etc that go on inside. But nowadays we've lost the practicality aspect of our gurughar and forgotten that looks aren't everything. Havelock Road Gurdwara in Southall is one of the worst built Gurdwaras but it looks very nice - inside and out. It cost £17.5 million to make but was made by a gora who knew nothing about Sikhi; where are the meeting rooms? Where can the panth discuss or do veechaar? The darbar is made for sangat to listen to katha and Kirtan but where is the room for separate Q&A? 2 massive darbars and no meeting rooms for the panth to talk about or arrange events or to come together and discuss Sikhi with each other in saadhsangat. That's not a gurdwara. Infact most gurdwaras aren't built for their purpose anymore. It's sad really. Maharaj Kirpa the gurughar in the future will be more purpose built. Hopefully I haven't said anything that has hurt anyone.

Very well put. It is one of the worst designs I have ever seen. Impractical. There's Gurdwaras which formerly used to be factories that make better use of the space. Tbh what do you expect from a Gurdwara which has pay-as-you-go Akhand Paths.

It's a business, not a place of worship.

The only discussions that happen there are between committee members and they take place in the khajaanchis office.
