If Guru Gobind Singh Ji stopped the caste system in Sikhi then why do people still mention it?

True. The power of Guruji is still there, but some people don’t want to make the effort and the type of sangat does make a difference.  

I wouldn’t say the tunes of songs  are more catching, but rather that they are the same chaklo rakhlo type.  There’s no uniqueness in the songs nowadays, but are more repetitive in lyrics, musical flow etc  . There are many shabads which sound way better than the songs, but I guess it’s all about one’s spiritual journey when they will be graced to sway away from that environment to experience Gurbani  . Been there, done it, still learning, so I can’t judge others on what they listen to, but I can control what I listen to and that’s what one needs to do, work on one’s self and that will create change.

Like it or not, and it may be an inconvenient truth, but it is the jatts who are the cause of keeping casteism alive.

It is from a misplaced sense of feeling "superior".

And it is predominantly jatts who are distorting sikhi e.g. Heavy drinking, eating steaks, but claiming to be "proper" Sikhs.

It all comes down to one (or two) things.

Ego and pride.

Ego because you want the world to know which caste you are. You want the world to know that you are one of the highest castes in India.

Pride because you feel proud due to it.

Do not be proud of your social class and status, you ignorant fool!

Even Guru jis mentioned caste in gurbani.

There's nothing wrong in just "mentioning" caste,

It is a problem when people become arrogant, hunkaari etc.

Actually some people have hunkaar in pride of caste, but there's also there who have hunkaar in not following caste as well unfortunately.

Correct. Gurbani both states clearly the Bhagats caste names, and that they were blessed by God:

Dhanna was called a Jatt and Sadhana was an out caste butcher. Saint Kabir was a weaver

and Namdev a calicoprinter who sang the praises of the Lord. Ravidas was a cobbler and saint Sairt belonged to (the so-called ) low barber caste.

Main Reason is to refute the arguments of Brahmins that only they the twice born can have gian and mukhti ...that the lower members of society have no hope and also no right to expect knowledge or mukhti . Guru Sahiban give also Ganika as an example as besides being a woman she was the worst kind a prostitute  to totally destroy the myth that women cannot achieve mukhti . We are all worthy of japping naam and doing bhagti.

in my experience, it is the so called 'low castes' and 'oppressed castes' who are the most fixated with caste- in terms of knowing who is what caste and treating them with hatred based on it.  based on 'inferiority complex'.

its not just in Panjab.  You can see how many Dalit politicians run to marry Brahmin women as a 'trophy' wife.

if 'jatts' are keeping casteism alive, please explain why there are overtly 'Ravidass' and 'Ramgharia' Gurdwaras?

so called 'low castes' have a jatt-hatred/fixation problem.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
