Help: Professor asking to imagine

Hi,

I am a student in one of the US universities. I have to forcefully take a communication class. I am a computer guy in general. My communication class, as I feel like, wants her students to think the way she wants. She asked the students to submit two assignments by imagining. The first was a picture and we have to analyze, interpret, etc. I do not want to go in any state of imagination or unreal world that hurts the real-life thinking abilities.

I am really not sure what to do. I am thinking to drop that class. I am not so good at complex vocabulary. And I feel like discriminated by her just because of the fact that I am using my own thinking to answer the questions logically. One day, she brought up a painting. I saw it as a critic way and she couldn't handle the fact that I said something opposite to her opinion.

Can you please help me what should I do? Shall I keep continuing the class and start to imagine or just drop that class.

The best way is to use you own mind, if students had thought the way their teacher did, there could not have any development at all.

I went to a US university and In English class there was an essay on the topic

“ US has free guns and ammo rule, what you think its good or bad, give ur views” everyone in the class weote to stop this law ans no guns should be available to civilians.

while i wrote that to have guns is a good law and everyone should have guns, I described it in a positive way.

 

she gave me a zero mark in the exam, ot was a big issue for me. I went to the department head and asked this is a english class not a physiological class, the essay heading askes”what r ur views” and i wrote my views how can she deduct my marks??

that lady teacher has to say sorry and she alao got a written warning too.

Imagination is a good thing. Computers is about communication. Don't have  an ego about it.

I can't tell you whether to drop out of that class or not but what I will say is that if you were forced to take it and you don't enjoy it then its up to you. Because you said you were forced I would drop out of it and use my time wisely. Sorry if I offended you that was not my intention.

Stand your ground and lodge the complaint. Which univ. you are talking about? Even if you were to drop out, you must go and see the head of the department.

Hi.  

I suggest you go talk to her directly and respectfully outside of or right after class (or arrive early and talk to her then).  Tell her honestly that you do not understand the idea of class and ask her to explain what skills she wants you to develop and what is necessary to get the highest grade etc.  Also ask her for advice on how to develop your vocabulary.  That way you will learn and also she will be kinder to you when she knows that you have respect for her class.  Maybe that is why she has been a bit mean, because she feels her class is not being taken seriously.

To be honest, your communication (written English) is quite poor for a university student and you should develop it.  However if this class if going to effect you overall grade in a bad and significant way, then you should drop it and look for an alternative class if possible.  

I understand what you mean when you say " I do not want to go in any state of imagination or unreal world that hurts the real-life thinking abilities." but that may not be the case.

This  is very silly position to take whether you are planning to become a programmer, analyst or hardware specialist communication skills are a must . This is like my kids turning around and saying why do I need handwriting or mathematics because they can do the work on a computer . In the work world  you will have to write documentatio for code, user manuals or even traning materials for endusers to refer to . Don't be a snob as Einstein said “Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life's coming attractions.”

If you are wondering I did a computer science degree and worked as a system developer and analyst , communication is a necessary part of the job. You need imagination to design test harnesses and get into 'beginner mind '

Not going to lie, for someone who's a student at a U.S. university your English grammar isn't exactly the best. So before you make any appeals improve on that, because this professor can easily claim that you can't write properly, and by looking at this, I would have to agree with them. (Just for the record, I know there's not exactly popularity for non-liberal viewpoints in most colleges; however, you should be able to logically defend your views).
