How To increase Sikh population in UK

Right now britian is in utter turmoil. It is greatly divided by race and religion. White people hate muslims and vice versa.

But there is a great opportunity on the horizen for Sikhs to spread our faith in the UK through moral methods. At the moment Sikhs generally have a good image. We are seen as peacefull and respectfull people not like many muslims who are considered scum by many whites. 

The key question is how do we do it? We should have a tons more followers then we do at the moment as Sikhism is a very attractive and intellectual faith. There are no absurdities in there like many other faiths have. I was thinking one idea is to do door to door knocking similar to jehovas wittnesses. 

This will kill two birds with one stone. We can educate people that we are not Muslims aswell as telling them about our faith at the same time. Areas to do this need to be chosen with research and know how of the ethnic make up of the locations. This needs to be done by well spoken and learned Sikhs. They need to have the gift of the gab. Its a bit like a sales men . you have to be good at tallking and selling. but you wont be selling anything. Just educating people about our beliefs. 

Do non Sikhs feel more welcome at a mosque then a gurdwara. Many eat langar then just leave. Why dont we make the effort to have a chat with them next time we see one in the Gurdwara.

Lets look at the muslim tactics. They go for weak and vulnerable people who are easily swayed by some sweet words. 

Why dont we have events were non muslims can come and have info on Sikhi. Ie at the gurdwara. Or is the gurdara just a place were old aunties can give everyone dirty looks at gossip?

Very true. We now have lots of Sikh channels on SKY. Sikhi is finer than a hair and sharper than a sword, where there is no liar no cheating. Other faiths do a lot of lying to get more converts. In the end quality is what matters. Now you can read the whole of Guru Granth Sahib from your homes and easily obtain a copy. Our Gurdwaras need to attract non-Punjabi folk and many do come such as weddings.

Offering to educate the children around your area can be a good start. If you can teach mool mantra and a few sakhis, for a start, then you can add punjabi language and japji sahib as well. Its just like tuition.  One lesson per week can make a big difference to educating the community around you.  This can create closer communities which means greater support. It is a great way to share your knowledge.  Meeting to watch a religious video and discussions can help too.

It is a good idea. Perhaps we should not ape the Jehovah's witnesses, as they've come to be regarded more as a nuisance than anything else, but setting up stalls in public with eye-catching signs demonstrating Sikh precepts and history may be a good idea. Also we need to increase our publicity generally. Make sure Sikhi is given a fair and even-handed coverage in schools' religious study curricula (it only receives very rudimentary coverage in most schools currently), get more Sikhs into television, the media and the arts in order to make us seem like a part of the British culture and landscape, because at the moment we are a bit irrelevant, exist in sort of a bubble. 

But we should also be aware that Western culture is not really receptive to religion of any sort anymore. Most people will be too caught up in the pursuit of their petty vices (drinking - HUGE part of the culture here, trying to get laid) to give parchaariks the time of day, particularly if they aim to discourage people from the materialistic pursuits which form the bedrock of their lives and ambitions. We should not set our hopes too high and expect any miracles is all I'm saying. Make a difference in every little way we can, if one of your friends for instance expresses an interest in learning about Sikhism, make sure you know what to say to them. Furthermore every Sikh needs to be on their best behaviour at all times - if they behave like tw4ts then this will reflect badly on our entire qaum and potentially put people off Sikhi.

that's really true. I grew up with a bunch of kids  who were pretty westernized, hair cut, didn't even know the names of the 10 Gurus let alone anything else. Fast forward about 5-6 years they're all in Sikhi saroop, can do Nitnem and are pretty good guys.

If there is a lot of hate crime in the UK then I don't know how people will react if 2-3 turban wearers come at their door. Some people don't pick up the door to 'Jenovah Witnesses' most of the time.

Bad idea. I would get out of the UK while you can. 

If Muslims are being targeted now, we will not be far behind. I like this country as much as you do, but it is going downhill. In a couple of generations time, general state of the UK will be much worse.

I have seen so many sissy boys say the same thing. Running off to canada like some poodles. Stay in the uk and be proud of who you are. Stop running as you can run but you cant hide forever!
