Ravi Singh needs a Nobel Prize

Ravi Singh, of Khalsa Aid, is someone who I immensely look up to, and I'm sure many others do as well. He is the embodiment of a true Gurmukh who does not preach Sikhi, but practices it. He is a human being that sees no religion/caste/creed and through Khalsa Aid has done great humanitarian work. My question to our community on here is this, how can Ravi Singh be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize? I know this man deserves it, but how can we as a community get him that nomination? Any ideas, any suggestions?

Jason Kenney, Canada's previous Minister of National Defence, a position currently occupied by Harjit Sajjan, has voiced similar sentiment as well:

Agree, he's a great guy and so down to earth too.

Yes, I was aware of this. But how can we as a community raise this idea up to the people, the few elites as you say, that can make this happen? Surely, there's something we can do to get Ravi Singh more exposure.

Most of these peace prizes are given for purely political reasons.Obama got his because the Swedish liberal elites wanted to stick two fingers up at the outgoing Bush and the Republicans. That Malala girl got one because the liberal elites want to highlight girls' education in Pak/Afg as well as raise the number of Muslim Nobel prize winners.

I changed my thinking for past couple of years. I think we are on the wrong path. We don't care of our own who needs help and we started dozen of organizations worrying of others who really don't need our help as they have more resources.

I feel the same. We need to set our own house in order before helping others. Dont want to belittle Ravi singhs great work, but if only we could put our resources for helping the weaker sections of the panth first before spreading out. Jewish community is a great example of using community resources for nation and state building.

I've had the same opinion for many years. I remember having a debate with Ravi Singh on Sikhnet over 16 years when Khalsa Aid was collecting money for the Gujarat earthquake. I asked him why he wasn't doing anything for Punjab and those Sikh farmers committing suicide (yes, the issue does go far that back) there who needed help. His view was that Khalsa Aid needed to gain a 'reputation' by helping in other causes first and  then start projects for Punjab. I thought that was a BS excuse then and seeing how they have only done some minor work in Punjab while the vast majority of funds goes towards non-Sikhs shows that was just an excuse. His other argument was that they were only involved in humanitarian and disaster relief so they could not help the Sikh farmers! 

It's an unfortunate fact but Sikh organisations such as Khalsa Aid and United Sikhs are mainly only interested in rushing to help non-Sikhs  while pushing the needy Sikhs to the side. Only organisation that I see which is involved in Sikh causes is Sikh Relief. They should be the ones that we should be giving donations to and not Khalsa Aid.

I could not agree more with some of the posts above. Pleased to know others feel the same about the direction of so-called 'Sikh' charities who refuse to put the needs of their own first. Shame on them.

Many worldwide charities are tending to the millions upon millions suffering from poverty, war and persecution worldwide which is obviously pleasing but how many of them are helping Panjab or surrounding areas? If Sikh charities cannot help their own then, in my eyes, they are showing the world that Panjab does not need help. This is a lie and our problems will become worse. Imagine if every Panjabi or so-called 'Sikh' in the west, each gave dasvandh for aid relief only in Panjab.

As already mentioned, the best way to overcome this is donate only to charities whose priority is only the welfare of Panjab/surrounding areas. I feel many so-called 'Sikhs' need to be informed about this as I get the impression that they just happy to donate 10% of their money to any charity as long as 10% is given but they know very little if anything about where it all goes. Where is the sense in that?

I agree about Sikh Relief UK. I see others doing good work too.
