BBC partition program by anita rani

The documentary was heavily choreographed in parts such as the speaking to the 90 year olds in english; lol as if they know English.

Obviously these programmes are just for viewing rates and making money and not high standard documentaries as BBC used to make.  Overall it was pretty good.  I felt it has brought home the reality that British imperialism was and is still today very bad for India because it polarised communities that lived for hundreds of centuries in a rich fruitful cosmopolitan.

I think we have become used to the heavily pro-Muslim bias in the media by now so a documentary on partition which is heavily skewed with pro-Muslim bias should not come as a huge surprise. The problem is that we have zero representation in the media and any we have are sell out left wing kumbaya singing nutcases like Anita Rani and the obnoxious Gurinder Chada. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't wheel out Meera Syal next!

If there is any benefit to watching the 2nd documentary of Anita Rani is was to see the look of horror she had on her face when the TRUTH was told to her about what her grandfather's first wife went through and how his two children were massacred by the Muslims. She was probably looking for a feel good story of how the Muslims had helped the Sikhs and how the Sikhs had forced their own women to commit suicide. This would have been her ideal story and would have fitted in with the BBC narrative of good Muslims and bad Sikhs. Unfortunately for her she came across the truth of what happened in 1947. It was a far cry from her original documentary last year where she seemed horrified that her grandmother's first wife had committed suicide during partition. It does look like in the recent documentary she now has a better understanding of what made non-Muslim women commit suicide rather than be captured by Muslims.

Apart from the inaccuracies and downright bias in Seven Days in Summer the programme started off with the derailing by Sikhs of one of the Pakistan 'specials' train thereby implying that the violence was started by the Sikhs. The fact is that communal riots had been going on since the end of 1946 in Punjab. The Sikhs had suffered genocidal massacres by Muslims in the rural areas of Rawalpindi in March 1947. By not relating the background of the partition and how the violence was started by the Muslims a year before partition it was being disingenuous. Would the BBC air a WW2 documentary and start by showing the bombing of Dresden by the RAF without referring to the Blitz of London by the Luftwaffe a few years before?

One of the other drawbacks of this season of documentaries on partition was that the Sikh position was never discussed. Here was a community which had been nearly been wiped out by Muslim massacres in the 18th century which had then gone on to rule the Punjab and were now to be either placed under perpetual Muslim rule or to have their community split in two under two hostile regimes. Neither was the loss of the historic Gurdwaras as well as the millions of acres of the best agricultural land in India discussed.

I think your being a little unfair there to lump anita rani with the likes of meera syal and gurnider 'chuddies' chadha. Meera syal is hindu punjabi for the most part i think her mother was sikh maybe and dad hindu so shes not really from our community her up bringing was hinduism orientated.

As for Anita rani shes usually quite balanced and most of the shows shes done about Sikhs has been pretty positive and insightful. I didnt like her last documentary though where the editor tried to paint Sikhs as killers of their own women when facts of the matter was muslim mobs had surrounded sikh villages so there was no way out and only choices left was being murdered, kidnapped, raped and converted. Sikhs were left with either suicide themselves, killing their own beloved family members or dying by fighting the enemy knowing full well there is no escape.

So in this documentary she actually came face to face with the killers of her family and heard first hand a little from their mouths what the muslim villagers did to her family and other innocent Sikh men, women and kids. The muslim buddha baba's in their 80/90s old age now knew the horrible truth also and they did not want to reveal the truth to her cos she looked angry and upset already its evidently painful for them too to remember their part in the killings or witnessing of what went on. She on her part had a bit of Stockholm syndrome take over her trying to side with the enemy but i think she realised now the full gravity the of terror, horror and hopelessness her family suffered.

Those parts of this recent documentary are good to show rebellious liberal naive Sikh/hindu girls of what happened to their ancestors whenever they need to know why its not ok to date or marry a muslim cos when things kick off. They will always see us as the enemy as kafirs and want to wipe our families and out faith out.

When u look back on partition, the role of cowardly panjabi hindus, shud never be underestimated. The pr!cks, if they had any meat n 2 veg in their trousers would of joined in n helped sikhs to claim more land from muslims. But they jus sat back like hijras n took shitther.

Whilst obviously we dont condone the disgraceful violence our grandparents/g.grandparents did on muslims, if u study partition, it feels like it had to be done. Cud u imagine amritsar ending up pakistan? It would have, since it was 51% majority muslim.

Your right that 7 days documentary  is heavily biased against Sikhs and painted our folks as extremists who started it all. When the fact of the matter is it was the hindu punjabis of hindu mahasahaba, arya samaj and RSS that went around kicking off with muslims all the time in the led up to events of 1947.

The pakistani muslim league and Hindu mahasaba were the main ones responsible for starting the killings. The british reported cloak and dagger tactics were being used, basically people trying to pretend to be another religion in false flag attacks to get Sikhs framed and attacked and thus Sikhs would jump in and start attacking also. Alot of the nirankaris looked Sikh but were not Sikhs they are hindu punjabi, arya samajists also had infiltrated Sikh circles. Master tara singh was a hindu convert to Sikhism who was very friendly with fellow hindus nehru and gandhi and tried to inflame tensions against muslims before partition.

Real Sikhs had alot of patience but you can only be patient and peaceful for so long after killings get too much and only then did later did our Sikhs under akali dal and various jatha groups aided by Sikh military generals and Sikh Maharajah's do revenge attacks on muslims to clear out east punjab of islam after their relatives were being wiped out in west punjab villages and Sikh dominated area's like sialkot, sargodha, rawalpindi, jhelum, mirpur, etc.

The Hindus of Panjab were more stronger in the east. There they forced all the muslims out from areas like gurgaon and such. They certainly did not avoid any violence there. In central Panjab the Sikhs were mainly holding their own. In western Panjab, both Hindus and Sikhs were getting decimated.

Speak for yourself. The only problem I have with the killing of Muslims on our side is that we didn't kill enough and made the grave mistake of letting any muslims live in East Panjab as Muslims. The minority of Sikhs that stayed in Panjab had to convert to Islam. Yet in East Panjab, our lot were still reluctant to let the Muslims go, adn then if they stayed , let them stay as Muslims. Today there are more Muslims in Jalandhar district than Sikhs in the whole of Pakistan and Afghanistan combined.

Some 95% of the Muslims voted for Muslim League and Pakistan. They were ultimately responsible for partition. Even bhiaris or gujarati muslims, all those who voted for muslim league were responsible for pakistan.

Amritsar from the 1941 consensus was 47% muslim.

What? If it wasn't for Master Tara Singh and Gyani Kartar Singh, the Sikhs would have taken a hiding ALL over Panjab. Master and Gyani both knew that there would be a huge violent outbreak at partition and prepared for it.

Using Master Ji's hindu birth against him is a low act. read about his life and you will see.

yeah its worrying how heavily biased they are however If our pathetic weak cowardly left wing Sikhs of today are not willing to raise a fess like muslims and jews can you blame the bbc for not taking advantage by promoting islam/muslim issues and not other faiths or painting others in negative light?

Modern Sikhs of today if they werent so brainwashed to be liberal lefty and more right wing like muslims and jews then we would not see this. We would see Sikhs protesting every act of anti-sikh incident or portrayal in the media.

Saw the documentary of Anita Rani finding about the truth of what happened to her Grandfather's first wife. What was shocking is how she always thought that her Grandfathers' first wife died after jumping in a well but the Muslim baba reveals that all the women in the village were taken away by the Muslims. The Muslim woman who she interviewed says that a lot of people made up the story of jumping into wells because it was seen as the honourable thing to say while no one wanted to admit that their women folk were kidnapped and raped.

It seems to me that the only women in Punjab that really jumped into wells were the Sikh women of Pothohar as that was documented by even the newspapers back then. But all the Punjabis just copied this story for themselves as well. I have even seen Muslims claiming their women jumped into wells in Patiala and other regions of east Punjab. I have asked many Sikh elders who lived during 1947 if such things had occurred and they always say they never heard of Muslim women jumping into wells in Malwa or Doaba areas.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
