Watched the video, (actually watched a whole section of Nanak Naam's videos before asking the question), sometimes it seems hard to do simran, (which should be a simple thing).

Hanji it's not easy, but if it was we wouldn't be on here. All depends on one's karm and bhagti as to how easy or difficult it is to do. No two people will be the same.
