Is that really any significance though (if so, why?)? I saw images of Sri Saraswati in japanese art, and they draw her(Benzai-ten) with japanese facial features compared to the traditional Indian features..  I just think that when it comes to facial features, unless we actually recieved darshan, then we are not to correct anyone (unless there is an actual dhyan description).

there is such a thing as rewriting history and goray have a major tendency to do this .

Khanda was made by the English as a badge for Sikhs to wear on their turbans. After 1910s it showed in paintings and after 1960s the Amritsar Nishan Sahibs were also changed from yellow Kattar Dhal Talwar to saffron with Khanda.

Since Guru's times there were many Nishan colours used. However, Guru Amardas ji used mostly white, Guru Hargobind ji yellow and Guru Gobind Singh ji blue. Of course, saffron was also used a bit later, probably after the agrarian uprising of Banda Singh.

I've seen red with green trim from Ranjit SIngh's army times and I thought that the legend was after a particular victory Ranjit was approached by the Dogrey to change the flag to have a picture of their mother on it and the colour saffron he said he would change the colour but no picture of a person....
