I don't think this is true, he has played a minor role. People have their own minds. Don't forget when Gurdas Mann was really big back around 25-30 years ago, there was not so much of music videos. He would have been heard, but not seen much. Bollywood, the rise of TV (a bigger influence than anything else I am certain), and looking towards the West has caused damage more than anything else. 

It is no coincidence that Sikhi has fallen in Punjab directly with the rise of those above factors.

you seem to forget most people know him from his film career prior to his singing one, and singing songs about how girls and boys should be maaf from everything , and dilsaaf hona chahida  being enough is influencing people to loosen their moral standards . He is the grandaddy of the tawaifs

Yes of course Gurdas Mann singing a song about drugs in Punjab is really going to solve the problem.

My two cents:

 

Two types of people I personally give big leeway to are stand up comedians and folk singers. These people have a license to say things that critically mirror back society -  the former through humour the latter through lyrics. 

I always see it as - in amongst all the rubbish they spout (and they undoubtedly do!), they should also bring overlooked issues that to the fore. They are just a part of the puzzle but overall anything that brings important (especially uncomfortable) issues to the fore is a good thing in my opinion. 

Sometimes we have to forget the messenger and focus on the message.

Given our people's proclivity to ignore things or be in denial about them, it's even more important.

Well it seems gurdas' lachhan/behaviour has caught up with him now....his sons sextape is spreading all over internet/whatsapp. Nice to know, wen it comes to bein a k@njar, like father, like son!

He's an entertainer, if anyone's looking for anything deeper they're barking up the wrong tree, i like his music (well, sometimes), his new song is reflective of the climate in Punjab, the timing of the release of it (in the middle of the elections) is questionable but sometimes, like already mentioned, we need to focus on the message, and that is on point in my opinion, i'm sure is someone else sang it someone would probably have some issue as well, there aren't many Punjabi entertainers who can stand up and say they've got a "clean sheet".

As far as his son's sextape, there's plenty of them going about, most of them being from the mp's that are standing for election in India like Sher Singh Ghubaya.
