There are two schools of spirituality - which one do you think sikhi belong to

Gyaan marg vs bhakti marg

(i) No Symbols of god - he is the universe  vs  God definitely needs a symbol

For sikhs  it has become Saroop of sggs and the confines of gurdwara

(ii) No rituals are ever needed  vs Rituals are a must

In sikhi context we have started chavar, akahand paths, jot, sukhasan , prakash , expensive palkis , keep the saroop in AC / blankets (e.g I don't keep my phone in AC which also has the same SGGS in electronic format )

(iii) Meditation is the only way to find him - Pancha ka gur ek dhyan vs chanting or reciting (while mind is wandering in thorughts) or paying others to recite for you (as in outsourced akhand paths )

(iv) No miracles - only laws of nature which do not discriminate against materialistic person or favor spiritual one vs For  your worldly needs beseech god - e.g cure diseases, pass exams , success in business etc.

(v) No sectarianism - all humanity is absolutely one (Na ko hindu na musalmaan) vs A sect is almost always formed because our ego makes us  gel with people who follow same symbolism  as us , so now we have sikhi becoming a sect and not much of a way to live a full life and cut the cycle of rebirths.

Daas will answer the 5 questions.

1. Vaheguru doesn't need a symbol, (Guru Sahib is not a symbol of Vaheguru, but rather Vaheguru himself).

2. There is no need for rituals, the things you mentioned can only be rituals, if they lose their original meaning, not by in-of-itself.

3. Grace only is the only way to find him, if you can do Simran that's proof of you being blessed, not the Simran giving you the blessing.

4. Irrelevant to Sikhi.

5. Not a Gurbani quote, it's equality but not everyone is spiritually equal.

  1. Only Gurus gyaan works not ours, look to Guru Ji not to one’s own foolish mind because that will lead you astray every time. Above reply has said correct, Guru Ji is our Jagdhi Jyote, we get all our gyaan from our Guru, He leads us to the path of mukti then we will do His sewa from Maan and Tann. You are mistaken if you think Sikh is just within the confines of the Gurdwara, Gurbani says – Joe Brahnunday soi pinday. Everything you see (and don’t see) in the universe is right within us. Those fools only see symbols do not know the adh Shakti that is Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

  2. Those who have no  gyaan, so avastha, no naam, no simran see rituals, those who have see their Guru. So you don’t keep your phone in AC, who told you to have Guru Granth Sahib Ji on your phone in the first place ? Guru Arjan Dev Ji used to sleep on the floor while Adh Granth Sahib Ji was always on a higher level, the Gurus led by example such a pity we cannot follow.

  3. The mind wonders in meditation just as it does when doing paath. Guru Je says, Saas saas simro Gobind . . .

Repeat His name with every breath you take. Guru Ji says over and over again repeat His name repeat His name – Naam Simran paath never let one breath go without His name on it, meditating on nothingness will bring you nothing.

4 Then you have not understood your Guru. Who is in nature ? Who created nature? Who created these laws? One leaf cannot move in the wind without His say so. We are all on a journey, some have progressed (and will ask for Naam Simran, and everything else will follow automatically) others have a way to go (they ask for worldly things), it is the foolish who look upon them with disdain for they themselves have not progresses far but are in the clutches of Hunkaar. As we progress so we see that the only thing to ask for (and why shouldn’t we ask – Guru Ji says Tumai shaad koi avar naa dhyao, joe barr chau so tum tay pao – Benti Chaupau – I will not leave you for anyone else and any thing I need I will remember you) are Naam and bhagti.

5 Guru Ji created many sampardhama, 22 munjies where set up by Guru Amar Das Ji, Damadami Taksal was created by Guru Ji. Infact we now have Sikhi which is being eaten from the inside by a cancer by those who call themselves the new reformers, who question every aspect of Sikhi, they started with Dasam Granth Sahib Ji and are slowly making their way to Guru Granth Sahib Ji please be aware of them.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
