NEW DELHI: In the first such action, India carried out surgical strikes on seven terror launch pads+ across the Line of Control (LoC) with the Army saying on Thursday its special forces inflicted "significant casualties"+ on terrorists preparing to infiltrate from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir(PoK).

Defence sources said seven terror launch pads across the LoC were destroyed+by special forces of the Indian Army on the intervening night of September 28 and 29 in a nearly five-hour-long operation during which heliborne and ground forces were deployed.

The sources said the launch pads in PoK were in the range of 2 to 3km from the LoC and were under surveillance for over one week while Union minister Venkaiah Naidu+ said the strikes targeted 5-6 places across the LoC along Kupwara and Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir. Naidu said there was no casualty on the Indian side.

The announcement of the sudden action by the Army to prevent fresh terror attacks was made by the DGMO Lt Gen Ranbir Singh+ , 11 days after the strike byPakistan-based terror outfit JeM+ on an Indian Army camp in Uri+ in Kashmir over which Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the attackers will not go "unpunished"+ and that the sacrifice of 18 jawans will not go in vain.

Here is what the government is doing to meet any challenge from Pakistan following the Army's surgical strikes across the LoC:

BSF puts all border units along international border on high alert

The BSF has put all its units along the international border (IB) on "high alert"+ in the wake of the surgical strikes+ by India on terror launch pads across the LoC last night.

Officials said the Border Security Force+ (BSF) has issued orders to all its units along IB in Jammu, Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat to step up vigil and bolster their numbers at the posts by bringing in all personnel who are in the reserve.

The ceremonial beating retreat ceremony at Attari border has also been closed for public on Thursday, officials said.

Border villagers in J&K, Punjab asked to shift to safer places

People living within 10km of the border with Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir+ and Punjab have been asked to shift to safer places and schools ordered to be shut till further notice in the wake of surgical strike carried out by the Indian Army across the Line of Control (LoC).

"We have asked border villagers living along IB and LoC to shift to safer area as a precautionery measure," deputy commissioner, Jammu, Simrandeep Singh said.

All people living within 7 to 8km of India-Pakistan border have been asked to move to safer areas and schools in 10km area to be ordered to close down till further notice, he said.

These directions have been passed on to people living along IB in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts and along LOC in Rajouri and Poonch, officials said.

In some areas of R S Pura, the movement of the border residents to safer places has already begun.

"We have passed directions to them to move to safer places and some of them have started to move to the houses of their relatives in safer places," a Police officer said.

Army+ has started evacuating people living in the adjoining areas in Noushera belt of Rajouri anticipation of a possible retaliation by Pakistani troops, officials said.

In Punjab too, people residing in villages within 10 km of the International Border were asked to shift to safer places. Six districts of the state share border with Pakistan.

The schools in the border areas have also been asked to remain shut until further orders, they said.

Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal has put the entire government and political machinery in an emergency mode, an official spokesman said in Chandigarh.

Badal has directed the chief secretary and DGP to ask the concerned deputy commissioners (DCs) and senior superintendents of police (SSPs) to oversee the entire evacuation process in the border districts of Ferozepur, Fazilka, Amritsar, Taran Tarn, Gurdaspur and Pathankot.

India takes other nations on board

Stepping up India's diplomatic offensive, foreign secretary S Jaishankar on Thursday met envoys of 22 countries, including five permamanet members of the United Nations Security Council, and briefed them about Army's surgical strikes. To mount international pressure on Pakistan, India has already opted out of the SAARC summit, which was to be held in Islamabad. After India, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Afghanistan also followed suit, leading to postponement of the SAARC summit.

India's not playing games no more with pakistan. It seems they are going to conduct covert terrorist ops in various places in pakistan and publically acknowledgely military operations inside pakistan kashmir. For the Hindu nationalists in their agenda and viewpoint all of pakistan is Hindu land so they are only going in their own land and taking back whats theirs historically and religiously. The so called surgical strike is nothing, its peanuts in the great scheme of things. The real test will be if they can raid towns/cities and villages deep into pakistan side of kashmir killing wanted militants and do this on a regular basis. the flow of jihadi traffic has been one way and thats east, if India has now a military doctrine of pushing hindu jihadis and indian commandoss into pakistan westwards then its a game changer and will strengthen unity of India and hindu nationalists.

If they really mean business they will need to target known jihadi recruiting hotspots like kotli in pakistan occupied kashmir. That is the best place to get a easy win as most kashmiri orientated jihadi's are exported from there from what I read.

I didn't think India had the guts to carry out surgical strikes against pakistan. But this is Modi that Pak is dealing with now. I bet Pakistan is surprised. I'm surprised too. He's a no BS type of guy. That's why he got the whole Hindu vote. Congress was seen as weak. Modi has taken it to a whole new level. Let's see how Pak fauj will react. Their izzat is at stake.

Congress = khangress it has a indian muslim votebank and has lost the hindu vote (80% population of india). It had a huge stain of committing genocides against the Sikhs since 1947. And Sikhs still havent given congress party their payback yet. They been sleeping for 30years+ while the killars like sajjan kumar roam free happily laughing in our 30+ million faces.

So congress wont be in power for a long time. BJP is in a very strong position electorially speaking. Pakistan's ISI's huge mistake is trying to test Modi. He let pathankot go he let gurdspur go but this attack in uri has forced his hand to act not just by the Hindu nationalists who are ever too ready to fight pakistan but also ordinary Indian's who view any such attack on the army thats defeding the borders in kashmir as an attack on them. They want revenge and they want more attacks in pakistan occupied kashmir.

Giving pakistan a "Moo thord jawab" they are saying.

I think there will be probably a 4th war with pakistan over kashmir looking at the world right now. Alot of hawks not many doves in power in world politics, seems like a 30 year generational cycle that this seems to happen.

Quote

India last announced it had conducted cross-border strikes in June 2015, when it targeted rebel camps in Myanmar (burma) in response to an ambush that killed at least 18 Indian soldiers in the north-eastern state of Manipur. Delhi described the raid as unprecedented at the time and signalled similar tactics could be used along its western border with Pakistan.

Modi is a total dipshit...if he thinks that the world is going to let him carry on bear baiting like this , he is going to learn fast that he will be alone in that thought.  Since nuclear strike could be on the table if the two lose their minds that would put many targets on the radar and nuclear winter for the world , John Kerry has already had two meetings/talk with Shushma to tell her to calm this whole thing down .

And of course the immediate targets will be Punjabs villages and land across the whole stretch of the indo-pk border. Thus mass evacuations , let's make the sikhs suffer yet again ...

If Trump's going to be president; Modi will probably get a free-ride; he'd be the enemy of Muslims, and Trump doesn't like Muslims either, (and NOBODY in America likes John Kerry he lost to BUSH)

How was Congress seen as weak? They were responsible for the 1984 genocide?

The Congress under Indira Gandhi and Congress under Sonia are very different parties. Indira Gandhi was a very aggressive woman. She broke Pakistan in 2 during the 1971 war. She conquered siachin from Pakistan in 1984. She even started funding the Baloch separatists during the 70s. And on India's South, she began funding and training Tamil militants to be used against Sri Lanka. She tried to play the same diabolical game with Sikhs but that got her killed. Modi seems to be like her.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
