Vaheguru Ji,

Can somebody educate me on sarbloh or iron shasters? I have seen many gurusikhs who keep steel kirpans. So is it a requirement that shasters must be sarbloh? Is it wrong to keep steel shasters or metal?

Thnks

VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH

Traditional thought and discipline in many Sikh groups speaks of maintaining a Sarbloh Kirpan.  Kara must be Sarbloh per Hukamnama of Guru Sahib.

Apart from that, there is no restriction on any Shastar being of any material or metal or to wear them  on your person.

Sarbloh is a strong metal, while steel can also be strong, (there is no pure steel, as steel is a mixture of different elements). Sarbloh in terms of Shastars that are small will not be better than a steel small shastar, if it is a smaller Shastar steel will be stronger; while for bigger shastars Sarbloh will be stronger. (By big or small Daas means a 1ft Kirpan and bigger vs everything smaller). An iron Kara and a steel Kara have about the same strength, and it's hard to break either of them. Amrit is always prepared in a Sarbloh Bata and never a steel or another metal.
