I have been wondering for a long time whether we are destined to be married to someone in Sikhism. Has waheguru set out our lifeemail partner when we are born. Is it OK to ask waheguru what kind of partner we want.

 

Please reply to what waheguru says. I know that it says about 2 bodies and one soul of husband and wife.

Maybe, who knows. But don't dwell on it- just live your life as there are no guarantees that u will even be alive tomorrow.

Brother,

Wahiguru has not set our life partner at all. That is not His job, to entangle us in maya. His job is to awaken us from Maya with His grace, and attach our chits to His Lotus Feet, in oredr to become pure and be fit to merge in Him.

All relations, of spouses, parents, brothers. friends, or even foes, are due to our own karmas with them, once the acoounts are settled, each one goes alone, in its own spiritual evolution individually.

Other thing is, we may not be conscious of our own past karmas...but definetely they are our very own karmas.

ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਬੰਧਪ ਇਸਟ ਮੀਤ ਅਰੁ ਭਾਈ ॥

Mother, father, wife, sons, relations, lovers, friends, and brothers,  

ਬਨਿਤਾ = ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ। ਸੁਤ = ਪੁੱਤਰ। ਬੰਧਪ = ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇਦਾਰ। ਇਸਟ = ਪਿਆਰੇ, ਇਸ਼ਟ। ਅਰੁ = ਅਤੇ।
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਾਂ ਪਿਉ, ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ, ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇਦਾਰ, ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਭਰਾ-

 

ਪੂਰਬ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਅੰਤਹਿ ਕੋ ਨ ਸਹਾਈ ॥੧॥

meet because of association of the previous births, but in the end, none of them extends a helping hand.  

ਪੂਰਬ = ਪਹਿਲੇ। ਸੰਜੋਗੀ = ਸੰਜੋਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ। ਅੰਤਹਿ = ਅਖ਼ੀਰ ਵੇਲੇ। ਕੋ = ਕੋਈ ਭੀ। ਸਹਾਈ = ਸਾਥੀ ॥੧॥
ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਜੋਗਾਂ ਕਰਕੇ (ਇਥੇ) ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਹਨ। ਅਖ਼ੀਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਸਾਥੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦਾ ॥੧॥

[Guest Hukam]

Everything's Hukam. We get what we deserve. If your deeds show that you Deserve to marry then u will. If they show that you're to die tomorrow, then u will.

 

Hukam is the karams earned on behalf of the deeds done.

Everything is due to Hukam; less on what we try to do. Everything we get is what we deserve in terms of relations; however, after this life the entire idea of your relation will be gone; and if you haven't gotten Mukti in this life; then you will most certainly have a new relationships with most likely different people depending on Karmic Debts and Hukam. Daas once listened to a Katha that the reason Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, (Vaheguru, who has no Karma), decided to come through the family of Mehta Kalu, despite that Bhai Gurdas says the whole world did Ardas for Guru Sahib, "ਸੁਣੀ ਪੁਕਾਰਿ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਗ ਮਾਹਿ ਪਠਾਇਆ।Sounee Poukaari Daataar Prabhu Guru Naanak Jag Maahi Patdaaiaa.सुणी पुकारि दातार प्रभु गुरु नानक जग माहि पठाइआ ।The benefactor Lord listened to the cries (of humanity) and sent Guru Nanak to this world."(Bhai Gurdas Vaar 1 Pauri 23) Was because in Mehta Kalu's past life he did a lot of Bhagti and did Ardas that Vaheguru can come through his family; however, despite that he had to be born again for whatever reason and another thing Vaheguru said was that Mehta Kalu wouldn't remember about that for a long time, and will not acknowledge for a long time that Vaheguru had came through his family. Also there was Bebe Nanaki's Ardas for having Vaheguru as a brother; however, as most people know she seemed to know of Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and who he is when he was born, (many Sikhs even believe her to be the first Sikh, but that's a topic for something else). So everything can be made possible through the power of Gur-Prassad, Ardas, and also Bhagti, (even though we probably won't have Vaheguru come through our families; it is still an important concept to get around).
