Bhagat Kabir Ji on distinction

Recommended Posts

There was, a while ago, a rather heated debate about if its important to make a distinction between the names of god and those which are given to Hindu Deities. Which reading some really amazing articles by various intellects I came across a really good quote which should put the whole thing to rest.

the link is here, for some reason I'm unable to post the Gurmukhi so

A distinction is of the utmost importance, one needs to meditate on the Primordial Lord when using names such as Bhaugauti, Kalika, Ram etc. As Bhagat Ji beautifully put it, one is present in all, the other is only contained within himself.

à¨à¨¬à©à¨° ਰਾਮ à¨à¨¹à¨¨ ਮਹਿ ਭà©à¨¦à© ਹ੠ਤਾ ਮਹਿ à¨à¨à© ਬਿà¨à¨¾à¨°à© ॥

Kabeer Raam Kehan Mehi Bhaedh Hai Thaa Mehi Eaek Bichaar ||

à¤à¤¬à¥à¤° राम à¤à¤¹à¤¨ महि भà¥à¤¦à¥ हॠता महि à¤à¤à¥ बिà¤à¤¾à¤°à¥ ॥

Kabeer, it does make a difference, how you chant the Lord's Name, 'Raam'. This is something to consider.

ਸà©à¨ ਰਾਮ੠ਸਭ੠à¨à¨¹à¨¹à¨¿ ਸà©à¨ à¨à¨à¨¤à¨à¨¹à¨¾à¨° ॥੧੯੦॥

Soee Raam Sabhai Kehehi Soee Kouthakehaar ||190||

सà¥à¤ रामॠसभॠà¤à¤¹à¤¹à¤¿ सà¥à¤ à¤à¤à¤¤à¤à¤¹à¤¾à¤° ॥१९०॥

Everyone uses the same word for the son of Dasrath and the Wondrous Lord. ||190||

à¨à¨¬à©à¨° ਰਾਮ੠ਰਾਮ à¨à¨¹à© à¨à¨¹à¨¿à¨¬à© ਮਾਹਿ ਬਿਬà©à¨ ॥

Kabeer Raamai Raam Kahu Kehibae Maahi Bibaek ||

à¤à¤¬à¥à¤° रामॠराम à¤à¤¹à¥ à¤à¤¹à¤¿à¤¬à¥ माहि बिबà¥à¤ ॥

Kabeer, use the word 'Raam', only to speak of the All-pervading Lord. You must make that distinction.

à¨à¨à© à¨à¨¨à©à¨à¨¹à¨¿ ਮਿਲਿ à¨à¨à¨ à¨à¨ ਸਮਾਨਾ à¨à¨ ॥੧੯੧॥

Eaek Anaekehi Mil Gaeiaa Eaek Samaanaa Eaek ||191||

à¤à¤à¥ à¤à¤¨à¥à¤à¤¹à¤¿ मिलि à¤à¤à¤ à¤à¤ समाना à¤à¤ ॥१९१॥

One 'Raam' is pervading everywhere, while the other is contained only in himself. ||191||
