Carrying tomatoes !!!

A teacher asked her students to bring some tomatoes in a plastic bag to school.

Each tomato was to be given the name of a person whom that child hates.

So, the number of tomatoes would be equal to the number of persons they hate.

On a pre-determined day, the children brought their tomatoes well addressed.

Some had two, some had three and some had five, some even had 20 tomatoes in accordance with the number of people they hated.

The teacher then told them they had to carry the tomatoes with them everywhere they go for two weeks.

As the days passed the children started to complain about the decay and smell of the tomatoes.

The students who had many tomatoes complained it was very heavy to carry and the smell was too much.

After a week, the teacher asked the students “How did you feel this week?”

The children complained of the awful smell and heavy weight of the tomatoes, especially those who carried several tomatoes.

The teacher said, “This is very similar to what you carry in your heart when you don’t like some people.

Hatred makes the heart unhealthy and you carry that hatred everywhere. If you can’t bear the smell of spoilt tomatoes for a week, imagine the impact of bitterness on your heart as you carry it daily.”

The heart is a beautiful garden that needs regular cleaning of unwanted weeds.

This makes room for storing good things.

Get Better, Not Bitter!!

Question of personality.

Once someone asked a Gyani :How to develop our personality ?

The Gyani replied: To develop your personality, you have to spend five days to have these five experiences to really blossom in your life.

You can develop your personality with these five experiences.

You have to sincerely play these five roles:

1. The first role which I would recommend to you is to be a School Teacher.

To teach lessons to children who are not learning, you need a lot of patience.

Being a nursery or primary school teacher, even for one day, you will see how you have to increase your patience.

2. Be a Gardener or spend a day with a Farmer.

If you are sowing the seeds, if you are watering the plants, you will know how you must care for water, earth and the environment.

You will have a feeling for the environment.

You will value food and you will not waste food.

You know, what we do?

We bring so much food, and we put it in the fridge and, after a few days in the refrigerator, we throw the food.

We are wasting millions and millions of tons of food every day.

We should not waste food. This we will learn if we spend one day being a farmer or a gardener.

3. You should spend a day in the mental hospital.

Whatever people talk in the mental hospital, you don’t mind.

If they scold you,

if they blame you,

if they curse you,

will you mind?

You don’t mind because you are aware that this person is mentally sick.

You know that many people are outside the hospital, but that does not mean they are mentally well.

So, in life, you come across people who blame you for nothing, who are jealous or angry, who say things that make no sense. Then, you know, you will have the patience to deal with them with a smile. You will not take the garbage inside and spoil your mind.

So one day if you spend in a mental hospital, you will know how to save your mind.

You will stop being a football of others’ opinions.

4. One day you must go to a prison. Maybe it is shocking to you.

You don’t have to do a wrong thing to go to a prison.

Just go visit a prison, spend a little time with the prisoners.

You will understand what compassion is.

What helplessness is.

Those people did a mistake without awareness.

So you will know how you must have a say on your emotions.

5. There are terminally ill people in the hospital.

One day with them, and you will realize how precious life is.

And you will start valuing health.

You will eat better,

you will exercise.

You will do all that is needed to be more vibrant in your life.

With these five days what would be the outcome?

I guess from these five days you will become

More Vibrant,

More Alive,

More Loving,

Compassionate

and Active.

That's a nice piece of writing, Harsharan Paji. I thank God for gracing me with all of those experiences, I would also like to add, it makes one understand better what others are going through and also that there are a diversity of personalities in this world, that you would never expect to see.

As one goes about their daily lives, God's creation make up Sukhi and Dukhi people and as we all pass each other, we do not know the life of somebody until they tell us. Assumption is a tricky concept. It's always assumed, one is able to cope with issues/problems just because their presentation or behaviour is normal. But when we start seeing under all of that, then the personalities start to reveal.

"More vibrant " - more determined to not give up with problems.

"More alive" - one starts to realise life is worth putting effort into to get the best from it thus making one more alert.

"More loving" - one becomes more caring towards close ones, and devoted to humanity.

"More compassionate" - understanding is obtained and those that a problem for one are tolerated better.

"More active" - lolz ? I'm afraid that's not happened with me, but my typing has become more active ? Lol.

To develop personality it would take other activities and experiences too, and that I have to learn still and long way to go, as I'm a slow learner.

Simran Pen Jee,

do not worry for being slow.

As the saying goes: slow and staedy wins the race.

Speed here is a relative adjective, cause no two people are at same levels.

The thing is, to be straightforward, sincere, honest, truthful, and to top it all, to be humble. Otherwise, the gyan, the virtues we want to get, shall never ever enter in us, they will just slip away at the entrance of our minds, cause there is no room for them, as it is fully occupied by ahankar, jealousy, envy, fakeness, and so on....

But you, do not have to worry, you have not any of these anti-virtues, rather a big heart with sympathy.

God bless you, and the rest of all of our brothers and sisters here.

Thank you Harsharan Paji, but I'm afraid I do have some of the anti-virtues you mentioned, probably a some of all. I believe that every soul is not without these emotions, as from birth, that they exist in humans, as they are natural reactions. But it's about controlling them, so as they do not hurt one's own soul and of another.

We can work towards reducing them, and only with the grace of God, will they eliminate and bring us closer to their path of enlightment.

The blessed ones are graced with this, not me, as I am but a sinner.

Sant Tukaram's Secret

There is a story related to Tukaram. The story brings into focus the attitude we should
display to family and friends in our daily interactions with them.

A disciple inquired ofTukaram about how his transformation came, how he never got angry, how he was always loving, and so forth; he wanted to know Tukaram's "secret:'

"I don't know what I can tell you about my secret;' said Tukaram, "but I know your secret:'

And what secret is that?" the disciple asked curiously.

"You are going to die in a week;' said Tukaram gravely.

Since Tukaram was a great sage, the disciple took his words seriously.

During the next week, he cleaned up his act. He treated his family and friends lovingly.

He meditated and prayed. He did everything he could in preparation for his death.

On the seventh day, he lay down on his bed, feeling weak, and sent for Tukaram.

"Bless me, sage, I'm dying;' he said.

"My blessing is always with you;' said the sage, "but tell me how you've been spending the last week?

Have you been angry with your family and friends?"

"Of course not. I had only seven days to love them. So that's what I did. I loved them intensely:' said the disciple.

"Now you know my secret;' exclaimed the sage.

"I know, that I can die at any time. So I am always loving in all my relationships:'

Progress

Progress has little to do with speed.

But much to do with direction.

So it is better to concentrate on direction than on speed.

*In our case, while chanting His Name, let it be done lovingly and slowly, rather than make it a ritual and speed it to finish it sooner.

The Law of Receiving & Giving.

Here is an interesting story on two seas with some interesting lessons.

As you probably recall, the Dead Sea is really a Lake, not a sea. It’s so high in salt content that the human body can float easily. You can almost lie down and read a book! The salt in the Dead Sea is as high as 35% - almost 10 times the normal ocean water. And all that saltiness has meant that there is no life at all in the Dead Sea. No fish. No vegetation. No sea animals. Nothing lives in the Dead Sea.

And hence the name: Dead Sea.

While the Dead Sea has remained etched in my memory, I don't seem to recall learning about the Sea of Galilee in my school Geography lesson. So when I heard about the Sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea and the tale of the two seas - I was intrigued.

Turns out that the Sea of Galilee is just north of the Dead Sea. Both the Sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea receive their water from river Jordan. And yet, they are very, very different.

Unlike the Dead Sea, the Sea of Galilee is pretty, resplendent with rich, colorful marine life. There are lots of plants. And lots of fish too. In fact, the Sea of Galilee is home to over twenty different types of fishes.

Same region, same source of water, and yet while one sea is full of life, the other is dead. How come?

Here’s apparently why.

The River Jordan flows into the Sea of Galilee and then flows out. The water simply passes through the Sea of Galilee in and then Out - and that keeps the sea healthy and vibrant, teeming with marine life.

But the Dead Sea is so far below the mean sea level, that it has NO outlet. The water flows in from the river Jordan, but does NOT flow Out. There are no outlet streams. It is estimated that over 7 million tons of water evaporate from the Dead Sea every day. Leaving it salty. Too full of minerals. And unfit for any marine life.

The Dead Sea takes water from the River Jordan, and HOLDS it. It does NOT GIVE.

Result?

No LIFE at all.

Think about it.

Life is not just about Getting.

Its about Giving.

We all need to be a bit like the Sea of Galilee.

We are fortunate to get wealth, knowledge, love and respect. But if we don't learn to give, we could all end up like the Dead Sea.

The love and the respect, the wealth and the knowledge could all evaporate. Like the water in the Dead Sea.

If we get the Dead Sea mentality of merely taking in more water, more money, more everything the results can be disastrous.

Do make sure that in the sea of your LIFE, you have outlets. Many outlets. For love and wealth - and everything else that you get in your life.

Make sure you don't just get, you give too.

Open the taps. And you'll open the floodgates to happiness. Make that a habit. To share. To give.

And Experience the magic of Giving.

Always remember as in Nature..

An Excellent lesson

When somebody told me that he has failed in his exams, my question is,

*"Is it a law that you will pass every time?"*

When someone told me that my boyfriend broke up with me, my question is,

*"Is it a rule that you will have successful relationships everywhere?"*

When somebody asked me why am I in depression, my question is,

*"Is it compulsory to have confidence all the time?"*

When someone cried to me about his huge business loss due to his wrong decision, my question is,

*"Is it possible that you take all right decisions?"*

The fact is our expectation that life has to be perfect/permanent is the biggest reason of our unhappiness.

One has to understand the law of impermanence of nature.

After each sunny day, there has to be a dark night, after each birth there have to be certain deaths, for the full moon to come again it has to pass through no moon. In this imperfection of nature, there is perfection.

So *stop taking your failures and bad part of your life soooo personally or intensely,* even God does not like to give you pain but its the cycle through which you have to pass. Prepare yourself for one more fight after each fall because even failures cannot be permanent...!

Enjoy life....

*Your breath comes to go.*
*Your thoughts come to go.*
*Your words come to go.*
*Your actions come to go.*
*Your feelings come to go.*
*Your illnesses come to go.*
*Your phases come to go.*
*Your seasons come to go.*
*You have come to go.*

Then why do you hold on to your guilt, anger, unforgiveness, hatred
so so so tightly,
when it too has come to go...

Let it go ..❗❗❗

BLESSINGS

Q: Have you ever wondered how come seeking blessings actually brings you good vibrations?
You can sit anywhere and ask for blessings in your mind, and you will receive blessing.

You may ask me how is that possible ?
Tell me, how does Kama Vasana (lust) get aroused? Just by thinking such thoughts, isn't it?!

Hormones are then secreted in excess in the body.

How do you get angry?

Just by thinking. You think about those who you are angry, and your body begins to show action of anger.

How does hatred come?

By thinking about others whom you dislike.

How does fear come?

By thinking.

So, if by thinking, lust can come, anger can come, fear can come, hatred can come, then can blessing also not come just by thinking?

Are blessings so ineffective, or do you think that you have to work so hard to get blessings?

No! Not at all !

You don't need to do anything.

Just by thinking you get divine blessings.

You are divinely blessed !!!!

What's Sri Sri Ravi Shankar?

I would say, he is a hindu philosopher. For some, he is a saint

I do not know much about him, but I admit, that sometimes, I like his speech or expressions.

I believe that goodness can exist in anyone, irrespective of caste, color or creed.

You see, all beings have souls, and as such, souls have no color, form, nor size.

Souls are related to Wahiguru, just as a drop is related to an ocean, or a ray to the Sun.

If Wahiguru has no color, size, nor nationality, how come the mamulee souls have any of these limitations.

Souls are free, just because in that particular body, it follows hindu, muslim, christian or sikh dharam, they do not loose their true spiritual identity.

Once again, the soul in a particular body, is born in the U.K for example, and lives there; so Britain is the place of residence of that soul, but because of that, the soul does not become british.

if someone is a policeman, then being a security officer, is that person´s job; but again the soul is free, it is not subject to that job, or place, or dharam.

The soul is changeless.

There are no good or bad souls, all souls are good, as they are particles of Him, who carry all the attributes present in Him.

You see, we people tend to classify everything under our limited vision, and from there on our problems start.

If anybody is bad, it is because of the mind. Just as any ordinary person under the effects of narcotics or alcohol, can do all sort of nonsense ....

In a similar way, dirty, impure minds, with their bad karmas, make the souls suffer in the wheel births and deaths. But in any case, it is the mind who is dirty and petty.

in a similar way, people in wrong company, dharmas, do wrong things, for which they shall have to pay for sure, but again, the souls are like passengers sitting in chariots, where the horses(minds) have become mad(under maya and vikars) and run here and there without any direction or control.

We should never underestimate anyone, becuase of religion, color or caste, or even if some do not believe in Him, all carry His Jot, even if they are not conscious of it.

It is a blessing upon us, that we have bee born in Sikh Dharam, and with the aid of Gurmat, we fairly do understand how all the creation works, and we are not fanatics, otherthing is, we firmly like and believe in our Guru Sahibans, the only manifestations of Akal Purukh.

This is nice Paji Harsharan, but I feel thinking alone would not bring the blessing. I feel that Waheguru would also be part of the granting of the blessing too.

What's Sri Sri Ravi Shankar?

He's the person that wrote the piece.

I've seen him on tv.

Simran Pen Jee,

it is 101 % right what you say, as it could never be otherwise.

It is good you have brought this point forward, as it is somehow confusing in the sense you have stated.

But I believe, when he says thinking on blessings, he means to say, to think (meditate) upon the source of all blessings, who is none other than Wahiguru for me, though for others it maybe devis, devtas, gods, godesses....

The thing is, different people seek blessings from different entities, but for us as sikhs, it is only from the Supreme Being Wahiguru Akal Purukh, to whom we should have in our minds per means of Bhajan bandagee, to get the bakshish, of His Charan Kamal kee Dhoor...

    • While they were busy trying to overtake the world and mess them, they forgot to take care of their children at the same time. Thus they have created fpr themselves a mess which now seems too difficult to sort out. We have fallen with them in the same mess created by laws and rules which are too painful to keep on following.
    • Having half  illiterate and not very highly educated grandparents has been a result of this ploy by the British. My great grandfather was of the time I suppose before this happened. His achievements were immense. he owned a great amount of sakhis which he read for all youngsters in the village. His children i.e.  my naniji went to school for just a 5 years after which her family did not think that a well educated girl would land a husband at all. Therefore she stayed at home. Despite being a bright student she got married at the age of 14. She did not perform her nitnem until my grandfather passed away 50 years later. Had she been more educated, she may have been able to advice her children better and we may have had more educated adults in the family.  From my fathers side, we had 2 illiterate parents. My grandfather learnt the 5 pauris of Japji sahib in his old age only by attending the guradwara regularly. He was not able to say these off head. Whereas my great grandfather woke up at Amrit vela and performed his nitnem on the way and read sakhis and told everyone, no one else was able to reach that level because of illiteracy. My great grandfather was able to reach a stage where he got parttakh darshan of Guru Gobind Singh Ji whereas the next generation could not even recite the main bani off head!!! So yes a big part of our inherited culture was destroyed by this evil plan. Perhaps if we had more educated grandparents, then as a community we would be able to make greater and wiser progress. We have lost youngsters to a culture which is alien both to us and to themselves too. Time to get back to our roots and rediscover them.  Thanks dailysingh101 for this very useful information.
    • They're under attack in one respect and one respect only as far as I can tell - any complaint or grievance they have is automatically shut down as 'racist' by society at large.  Saying that though, an examination of the thinking behind these complaints always throws up the same themes - "the immigrants are taking our jobs and our houses". If this were truly the case, then the solution would be a pretty obvious one - make more jobs and build more houses. But the greedy men currently in power in this country would rather not do this, thus they are constantly resuscitating these politically expeditious lies about immigrants, to avoid having to spend their money.  The working class whites are being played by the rich whites, and they just can't see it.
    • Whatever the art style and period, I've always been struck by the depiction of Guru Tegh Bahadhur, which seems to be fairly standardised throughout the centuries. The grey / white streak in their beard underneath the bottom lip is a common distinguishing feature in various portraits of theirs. It's a pretty specific detail. Is that something that's been mentioned in a sakhi, etc?
    • Guru ji went to battle as a youth thus his name from Tyag Mal to Teg Bahadur...but his true essence was to be tied to Akal Purakh's charan
