The point he makes is that those mahapurakhs of the past were the true mark of manhood that is called 'jatt' not these bandars who have zero love for Gurbani , sikhi or their homeland... I would aspire to be a jatt of Guru Nanak's description in Bani who plants the seed of naam in the fields of my mind ...Main point was the man is thinking about heritage of sikhi going forward and the state of sikhi in its heartland ...what he said about permission process and censorship by the state on dharmic films is true . I mean they try to tell us that we cannot speak the truth about mughals for fear of muslims now ....we cannot speak the truth of the 1980s and 1990s because it will offend the hindus of punjab ...If they are truly Punjabi they would have love and respect for Sant ji and Guru Sahiban...

The only thing I can see is making films outside and bombarding the internet and Indian market from the outside

Ghuggi has done a "jat classic" in that short video and no one should underestimate the damage such narratives evoke.

Jat classic = if a Sikh of jat background does anything of any significance, then mention that he is a jat. If a Sikh of a non-jat background does anything of significance, he will simply be known as a Sikh or Mr Singh.

This has been going on for generations. Fast forward to 2016. The outcome is that an uneducated pendu is brainwashed into thinking only jats have contributed to Sikh history.

Couldn't be more wrong.

No, that is wrong. If you are stating that his point is that someone like Shaheed Baba Deep Singh was a true mark of that eras manhood and he represented the jatt is totally wrong.

It is statements like these what cause issues. It hasn't got nothing to do with that he was from jatt ancestry, it has everything to do with that he accepted Amrit from Guru Gobind Singh himself and represented nothing but sikhi and the Khalsa.

Do you think Guru Nanak Dev Ji represented the manhood of that era of the Bedi caste?

Ghuggi is only trying to highlight caste supremacy.

Also, in gurbani, where jatt is written, it represents the farmer sowing the seed, not the jatt caste for jatt supremacy. It's a metaphor for all SIKHS to sow the seed of faith. So why would you want to be a "jatt of Guru Nanak" and not a sikh if Guru Nanak?

Gurbani also says we are all gypsies, as we all mangh from waheguru.

honesty we are all jatt , all tarkan , all dalit, all brahmin, all khastryia because My Pita ji made us ALL IN ONE people , 4varna ko ek karauon Tabhi Gobind SIngh nam kehaoun . Guru Nanak Dev ji did khetibardi like a jatt despite being from a different strata ...we are one caste humanity

we should rise above the labels ... Sarbat Khalsa mandate is same ...obviously a person who has earned money from his 'jatt' pride has acquired the disease of the brahmins but we have the technology to cure him and his ilk ...just let's get him to put his efforts in for the panth ...you never know he may surprise us all and become tyaar bar tyaar Khalsa

so you kind of drawing a parallel between english and Jatts and scottish/irish/welsh with non jatt .....say if an English dude wins a gold medal then he's English but if a Scottish dude wins then he's British?

truth is our history is jampacked with people with diverse backgrounds, cultures and languages ...even panj piare is a prime example if you want this rebrushed history and punjabiat dominanace to fade, we have to let the world know that we have that diversity.

I have to disagree with you on this one penji. Firstly, I'm not a Jatt, neither any of the other castes as I am a Sikh. The only place my ancestry has, is to make sure my kids do not some how marry back into family. That's why they will know of their family name. I wish to marry my children within the Sikh panth, not within caste.

The whole point of the diversity of the panj pyare was to unite people and breakdown caste barriers and create one unit, the Khalsa. Hence why when one chaks Amrit they denounce their ancestry.

Ghuggi in the video talks about ithiaas, then goes on to then glorify jatts. This is in no way Gurmat. Only manmat. When someone is wrong, it's simply wrong, to then make excuses is counterproductive for the panth.

Your point of Guru Nanak Dev Ji doing kethibari doesnt represent anything to do with jatts, it simply demonstrates that he practiced what he preached, naam japna, kirat karo and vaandh chako.

The parallel of the whole Brits/English/Irish.......this does not reflect the facts of the Hindu Varna. The national identities are as a whole of the Christian faith and the Irish will be able to marry within the Scottish etc......

Within sikhi, you have one group claiming a large part of history as being victorious due to their blood. This is wrong. We should say it's wrong and move forward as per gurmat. No caste group has any physical/spiritual monopoly on the progression of sikhi. As it was through sacrifices based on Gurmat and the label of the Khalsa Sikh, not Jatt Sikh, dalat sikh....or any other caste based Sikh.

If Guru Nanak never promoted his caste and in his tenth form initiated anyone to become Khalsa and stand equal, who is Ghuggi to then attach labels on sikhi's Mahaan shaheed and Mahaan Sikh? Who is he to call Baba Deep Singh Ji a Jatt and not a Khalsa of Shiri Guru Gobind Singh?

Again, this is wrong and should be highlighted, not accepted and for excuses to be made.

I wasn't making excuses I am saying that punjabiat is the virus we need to eradicate because our panth is universal not tied to any nation or region/culture alone . I was descended from jatts but neither I nor my parents did farming ...it is just the trade of my ancestors, nothing more. I appreciate my ancestors' sikhi more and their actions to fight against oppression, if it wasn't for their steadfastness I wouldn't be blessed with this heritage. I read Sikh itihaas but never thought of who was what ..just how wonderful these people all were and how much I would have loved to live with them and learn at their feet. I never discriminated against anyone for their birth and still don't and yet there are so many in India who claim blood relations to me who feel that jaat is something, so many who claim they speak for me and my Sikh family when they kickout people from sangat for accident of their birth THEY DON'T ...

Not all sikhs were Punjabi many were afghan, Gujrati, assamese, Nepali , Kashmiri etc etc How are we going to recover those sangats if we let antisikh elements like SGPC prevent true parchaar to those regions because of their constant shutting down of projects and support to individuals starting grass roots changes ? Let's pick the the proper battles let AAP come up with anticorruption packages and plans to handle things differently in Punjab whilst we stop casteism in Sikhi's name and really get parchaar going in the Subcontinent

Hello everyone

I went to watch the Ardaas Punjabi movie this weekend and was impressed with the production and the storyline of the entire movie. I believe it to be a benchmark in the Punjabi film industry in which Gippy Grewal has done an excellent job. Gurpreet Ghuggi and others of the the movie cast were also very good in their roles.

In regards to caste and “Jattism” – I do not believe this promoted caste supremacy. In Gippy’s interview he states clearly that in songs and movies to date the Jatts have been shown to be something which they are not – i.e. rich, rule over others, are better than others, are doing so well etc… Gippy states that he wanted to produce the film based on facts and the real life issues such Jatts face. This film shows this clearly.

The only issue I have is with the Punjabi movie industry as a whole – they always focus on the Jatt family / community. There are many other communities that are doing equally well or have their own issues – but these are never covered. Maybe because most of the Punjabi community are mainly of a Jatt caste so producing something they relate to will obviously sell more. This does need to change as it is causing offence and getting on peoples nerves – this is easily done when every single Punjabi song / movie is making a reference to the Jatt caste. The Punjabi enternatinment industry must stop referring to Caste in any form as it is divisive and excluding.

I could go on, but focusing on the subject I would say that Ardaas was a fantastic film.

I agree, the "Jatt" theme needs to stop. It's not cool, and far from respect of others. The songs also need to stop, that's why songs on other castes are being made. The movie industry need to get real and adjust with the present time we are living in.

Hanji, this is the reason I like the movie, as it showed the facts and wasn't about a young man flying off a boat to fight 10 gangsters to just go out with his girlfriend.

But they to think now, how to take this to another stage and carry on in helping the youth to stay on the right track.

Punjabi movies will continue to focus on Jatts or at least give Jatts more significance simply cause they are the primary customer base. The pro-Chamar genre of music doesnt have 1% of the success mainstream Punjabi songs do. I believe movies based around Chamars will suffer similarly. Ardaas delivers many messages, they should have focused a bit more on the caste issues as well, in my opinion. Lets hope our Punjabi Sikh community actually learns a thing or two from this movie.

I think we should be aiming to be prosikh not anything else otherwise we are just swapping out labels that have zero relevance to the actual message of sikhi. No more shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic , let's save the ship

    • @harsharan000 i miss your words of wisdom posts... hope all is well.
    • It's not just RS, you have other cults out there too. They use gurbani to lure people to fill their pockets. They are leeches, do not follow these so called cults... so called baba trilochan das has even started charging money for prashad. Rebranding Ayurvedic as guru prashadam and sell it to their followers - google it.... People Need to wake up. Faith is a business for these so called pakhadis.
    • God doesn't have a name, if you were a true Sikh you'd know that from Jaap Sahib. Nice try but your Devta Pooja Bhajans are just that, don't lump it with the supreme essence of God, that stuff there is trash compared to it. You didn't even know that the name Raam used in Gurbani isn't a name but a divine attribute.  Nice try but that song is talking about a being filling the person with energy and being their life support. You're so biased that just because the word Raam is there you start screeching its about God, when the person who sung it has a page devoted ENTIRELY to Ram Chander.  Well what do you expect. She had no come-back for the fact that she thinks she's got more knowledge and insight than a Brahmgyani, Honestly I'd rather watch "cartoons" than the drivel she does and above all I'm certainly not a massive hypocrite like her, my feet aren't in 2 boats with one sinking down to hell and the other rising up.   Since we're on the topic of "Bhajans" and Blasphemy. Here guy, according to Preeto this is also Praise of God.   I'll let you in on a little secret....this time it uses the word God.
    • You know you don't have to hide behind a Sikh mask and can admit to being Hindu; nobody going to judge you, but when you try to use Sikhi as a shield to preach Hinduism; that's when it gets on people's nerves. Now your insulting his taste in t.v., when you've been watching Bhagat Beadbi of Ravidas.
