Why Nanaksar Ragiis Are Celibate

can some one tell me why ragiis of nanaksar are celibate. also why they have diffrent maryada.

It sort of seems to stem from Guru Nank Dev jis son ... Sri Chand who was also an udasi. Udasi's cannot marry because they live in forests. However they seem to have found their way as Bhai Nand Singh their founders was guided by the Guru's.

They do not light a fire in their Guradwara and their langar is prepared by people from home who bring it to serve in the Guradwara. They also have a very big lion face or skinned lion placed in the front of the Guru Granth Sahib in their Guradwaras.

The one we visited in India had an exhibition which was opened to the public only if they promise to jap a certain number of sukhmani or japji sahib dhe path. However on pooranmashi everyone could go in and have a look at what was in the hall.

Yes I have been to Nanaksar kaleran, and the Nanaksar sampardha have the utmost respect for Sri Guru Granth sahib ji.

The bahingams / monks as they are called - devote there whole life to the seva of maharaj ji, therefore have no worldly attachments - such as family / marriage etc

It's a devotional thing for Nanaksari Ragis. They don't get married to dedicate their entire life to Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, which is a very admirable thing.

I know some Nanaksar Raagis, but they are not celibate and are not based in India.

Which parts of Rehat Maryada are you referring to?

The Ragiis of our organization live a very simple life under penance. We have lot of Ragiis in India at each Gurdwara but between 5-8 Ragiis in each Gurdwara outside India. GURDWARA NANAKSAR - MARYADA I think this is what he was referring to.

Okji, but the ones in UK are not celibates.

Which parts of Rehat Maryada are you referring to?

having diffrent room for guru granth sahib ji. doing prakash of guru granth sahib ji twice. having guru nanak's picture in sachkhand. having no nishan sahib. singing kacchi bani.

Can you explain the Kacchi bani? (Everything else you said is correct from what I've heard.

As long as the meaning is not twisted up some people do sing dharnas from gurbani to get the message across to people while not sounding too religious.

Nanaksar however I would say offer the greatest inspiration to people who want to work and progress seriously in the religious/spiritual part of their lives. They simply want you to get down to reality and do maximum naam jap for yourself which is the only thing which is important. That is the whole purpose of us having been given this human body and sent down on this earth.

asa mehla 5 Bhei parapat Manukh dheriya in Rehras - the whole pauri which we are supposed to read everyday explains this clearly. Anything else we do is going to be of no use to us.

So which nanksar dharnaas exactly can you say are wrong?

i am not saying dharnaas are wrong. i am just asking why they have diffrent maryada? why they do prakash of guru granth sahib ji twice? after asa di vaar why they close the doors of sachkhand?

If they started the service at 2.00 a.m. then I suppose they may want to retire for some rest. So after their nitnem they do sukhasan. I am also assuming that in the days of war, that is probably what they did. As they may not want to leave Sri Guru Granth Sahib unattended when they are out at war.

It does leave he Guradwara visitors in a bit of a predicament to know that you are going to be visiting the guradwara and performing a mata tek when Sri Guru Granth Sahib is at sukhasan.

When we had to go out anywhere we used to perform sukhasan earlier than normal. Keeping in mind that they also do not cook at the premises, maybe that is why they perform sukhasan, however that cannot be a valid reason as sangat is always ready to do seva. Perhaps they dont want parkash when there is no ceremony going on. The best person who can explain the deeper reason maybe themselves.

if we look deeper into things then Guru has given each person a different hukam to follow. Baba Bhandha singh bahadur was given a different set of rules and Pande khan was given something else to follow. It may be that (Nanaksar) priests are simply at a different spiritual level than the rest of us. I was reading about the Buddist explanation on the stages of enlightenment. Even after initial enlightenment - the soul takes birth 7 times in order to purify itself more. These people have a reduced level of lust, moh, anger etc. They are able to remain celibate. Therefore Nanaksar maryada maybe more appropriate for their needs in order to attain full enlightenment.

    • Its not just him. One of the most ridiculous notions peddled by the left is that ALL of the far right are idiots who can't tell the difference. The reality is something completely different. People like Ben Shapiro and Milo Yiannopoulos, both of whom have a respectable number of followers remind people of this whenever there is an attack as the media paints us with the same brush as the terrorists.  Most of the big Right wing "preachers" i guess is an accurate term, know the difference and tend to cite it always.
    • Don't worry about not having a spiritual experience. The main thing is you don't divert from God's name. You don't want to get into ego from experiences either.  All people are not the same, an experience to one person may not be the same as another, however large or small it maybe. We should bear in mind, that we do not recite God's name for experiences, but to think of it as our duty and love towards them. If we start to ask for experiences, then we have forgotten what our goal is.  It is up to Waheguru to grace somebody with an experience. It can happen how much more or less time on one spends on Simran, than another. Do not compare yourself to others, an experience will happen in Waheguru's Hukam, not by anybody saying how or when.  Its good to increase Simran, Gurbani if you wish to and spending more time to devote yourself towards it, will never be incomplete of anything. But we must focus on doing Simran and not expect anything back in return. Just leave that to God to decide.  Say if somebody has an experience, does it necessarily mean it has to be a physical one or that is visible? And then what after that?  Doing Simran, reciting/listening to  Gurbani is an experience in itself. We are here in this world for this experience of having the opportunity to, that is also an experience we should be grateful for. But we forget God is everywhere.  ਤੂੰ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਭਰਿਪੁਰਿ ਲੀਣਾ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਸਰਬ ਸਮਾਣਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

      SGGS ji Ang 731 🙏🏻 Dhan Guru Nanak Dev ji   I understand that you maybe desiring for an experience to feel the presence of God for yourself, but just remind yourself they are everywhere. When we do Simran with love for God, then we'll start to feel the anand (bliss) of it, when God graces us with it.   
    • Apart from the ignorant British attacking a Sikh wearing a turban (which I hear is very rare, I'm Canadian/American btw), I doubt that the British people will target Sikhs. Instead, what they will do is far worse, they will use our history with the Muslims to incite us and basically use us as fodder as they did in their Raj, though this time, it'll be purely against the Muslims. 
    • It is going to be of no use to you to know how much simran to do. You simply have to arrange time for yourself. .. approximately 2 hours 40 minutes everyday. One tenth of your time everyday to Devote to simran. It is a blessing from God if one is able to put in this amount of time.  Pichle janam dhi kamayi counts as well greatly. God has preselected exactly whom he would like to have these experiences.  If you have these experiences, then you have to learn to not spread them about and you will have more. There are many more things that come to pass... we are spiritual beings suffering from separation from our creator. Reconnection is going to occur slowly and understanding these experiences comes slowly too. As you keep your simran up, you are able to obtain great amounts of happiness and peace from it. So forming a habit of simran should be done as a conscious effort.
