So your saying we should continue to live in these run down areas and not aspire to move out into better areas. Were there will be better schools, better life chances, less crime?

Just so we dont lose our toughness :poke:

I can understand if people have no choice to live in those areas. I know in the posher areas its usually a lot quieter and boring but who cares when there are no yobs all over the place and its a safer environment to raise kids.

If we don't be careful and continue thinking like this we'll have a whole generation of emasculated lions (Singhs), oh wait, we're already there....

Remember, plenty of kids come up in or around these types of environments and are fine. You already know that the gentrification set raise their families around a lot of so-called 'tough' areas. Our lot have become so cowardly, they wouldn't even consider it. Says a lot that apnay are scared of this when even gay looking, pu55y hipsters don't business to move and live in these types of areas. As for education, I notice that although they live there, they send their kids to schools outside the immediate area; so there are workarounds.

Sikhs in West London send their children to schools outside their boroughs.

I had a cousin in East London who sent her kids to school to another area.

This is happening already.

Sikhs will NEVER lose southall n surroundin areas. Southall has 65-70k population, of which is 70%+ sikh, n this is hardly gona drop, esp as u mentioned with afghan sikhs here. Also u forget, there is A LOT of illegal fauji sikhs, whom r not included in the census counts ever, n they r thousands of them!

Though i will say, it was interesting to see, in the last 2011 census, that sikhs were the only community who's majority population DIDNT reside in london. Majority of sikh population is now in w.midlands. Although as i mentioned, the census doesnt include the illegal fauji sikhs, who's population count could well make london as the majority area of sikh population.

We need to understand the agenda of the establishment which despite all it's claims of supporting multiculturalism still wants all minorities to assimilate into something called Britishness- whatever that means. Assimilation means accepting the British lifestyle of divorce, alcohol use, clubbing and sexual promiscuity. Although this is not how assimilation is sold to the minorities but this is what the establishment want. I have lost count of the number of times I have read or heard some gora describe how the Sikhs are a successful community and giving as an example how his friend 'Ranj is a Sikh and he goes to the pub and loves his drink' This is the only type of acceptance that is offered in this country. As a community we need to seriously consider where the future is for the Sikh community. If we take the example of West London then up until the early 2000s we had a majority Sikh populated area of Southall with some enclaves such as Heston and Hayes which also had a good population of Sikhs. But since then we have had Sikhs move out of Southall to places like Iver, Richings Park, Osterley etc. We have been lucky that we still have a good population of Sikhs in Southall but a majority may now be of recent Sikh arrivals such as the Afghani Sikhs and Sikhs from India. The original Sikhs have moved out and in doing so have brought houses outside Southall and then rented out their old houses to new arrivals such as Pakistanis, Somalis and Afghani Muslims. The Afghani Sikhs have been in Southall now since the mid 1990s and have not reached a stage where they are moving out of the area like the original Sikhs. The Indian Sikhs either tend to students or people on work visas although a fair number now consist of Sikhs who have got citizenship in countries like Greece, Spain, Portugal and Italy and so under EU rules have the right of settlement here. Had there been no such Sikh migration into Southall then Southall would have ceased to be a Sikh area long ago,

The Sikh community is now at a crossroads, do we want be a community that is forever moving further and further away from areas where we originally settled and where will this end. As we mover further west from West London, what will we do when we end up in Bristol or in Cornwall? With each and every move west the community will get more and more assimilated and more and more of our religion will be lost in these migrants west. Southall and West London still contains the maximum number of Gurdwaras. In Southall alone there are 9 Gurdwaras and countless other religious cum community assets which will then be unviable if the migration continues. With the immigration debate the likelihood of Sikhs from abroad being able to come and live in Southall seems to set to close. So the community needs to consider what the Gurdwaras and Sikh organisations can do to keep the Sikh community in Southall and surrounding areas from moving further out.

What you might notice is that Iver and Richings Park is East of Slough and Sikh residents from Langley and other parts of Slough will also be moving to Iver, what you will have is the joining up of the West London and Slough communities which would mean continuous stream of Sikhs along the M4/Bath Road corridor.

The other factor that may potentially impact the Sikh community is the uncertainty over Heathrow Airport, particularly over it's future and the third runway.

If the third runway is built, there is going to be a sixth terminal and there may be a major upheaval and movement of people in the areas north of the A4.

How this will impact the Sikh community I cannot say.

You are right the illegal faujis aren't counted in the census and a lot of them reside in the studio flats at the bottom of the gardens and they were not counted. But what the authorities use are the census figures when they assess the needs of the area. In the 2011 census Sikhs were the only community in Ealing borough to DECREASE in numbers from 2001. Muslims and Hindus all increased. The Sikhs in Southall only went up by 3% but the Muslims went up by about 47%! This isn't a case of Muslims being small in number and hence their increase being not much in absolute numbers. Sikhs went from 20199 to 20738 and Muslims from 10871 to 16079. Within Southall there is a increase in number of Sikhs in Norwood Green and Old Southall and a decrease in Southall Broadway and Dormers Wells.

Like you said the illegal faujis aren't counted in the census but they also cannot vote so power is likely to shift from Sikhs to the Muslims. This is why wrote that Sikhs need to have an action plan as a community on what future they want in Southall.

What proportion of the Muslim community in Southall is Somali?

What proportion of Southall is made up of Asylum Seekers/refugees.
