European Sikhs meet UNHRC for release of those arrested in Punjab in November

AMRITSAR: Sikhs of Europe under the banner of Movement Against Atrocities and Repression (MAAR ) met the president of United Nations Human Rights Council seeking his intervention for the release of Sikh leaders who were arrested on November 10th and were facing sedition charges.

The president of MAAR, Harminder Singh Khalsa told TOI over phone from Switzerland on Thursday late evening that they had also submitted a list of those arrested as well as those who have been charged including Sikhs from the USA, UK and Italy to the Council.

He further informed that a memorandum outlining in detail as to how the basic rights to freedom of speech had allegedly been violated, had already been submitted this month.

"The response by the United Nations has been positive," said he. He further informed that on October 30, thousands of people from all faiths had gathered in front of the United Nations in Geneva to address concerns regarding recent alleged human rights violations in India.

"This was followed by a memorandum which was signed by over one hundred Gurdwara's and delivered to the United Nations Secretary General and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in which seven issues were addressed," said Khalsa.

He said some of the issues includes UN-led inquiry into the 1984 Sikh Genocide, prosecution of police officers involved in human rights violations in Punjab, release of Sikh political prisoners, recent attacks on the Sikh faith and killing of peaceful Sikh protesters.

An old thread but just been thinking how quiet it is in punjab on thr sikh rights and justice front,  you would think since the badals are now out the picture, the sikh activists behind the sarbat khalsa would get moving again now the sikh butchers (congress) are back in control.

A few notable points that come to mind:

1. The sikh killing congress are quite firmly in control of punjab.

2. Badal Dal in freefall

3. Still no closer to unhatching the planners behind the ang ripping of sggs mahraj across punjab 2-3 years ago

4. Congress have recently dropped sedition charges against the front liners and jathedars related to the last two attempts of arranging sarbat khalse

5. akali dal amritsar, baba daduwal and co shtum on biannual sarbat khalse.. all the issues they raised are still there though..... hmmmmmm????

Sounds like the likes of akali dal amritsar, baba daduwal and co have acomplished what they wanted hence no talk of future sarbat khalse. Stinks of a dodgy deal with congress and these fake sikh leaders especially (4), were they doing the bidding for congress all along????

The important kaumi issue (3) seems to have been "forgotten" by akali dal amritsar, baba daduwal and co, or was (3) just a convenient excuse for them to achieve (1) & (2).

Can't trust anybody at the sikh political top table.

Hopefully the world sikh parliament gets off the ground as diaspora sikh politics is more cohesive, less uncorrupted and not as pendu backward as punjabs sikh politics.. maybe this will lead to reformation of some kind of regular sarbat khalsa type gatherings to bring focus to actual issues and in turn addressing them.

Basically posted this to see if anybody else smells some rats in amongst; akali dal amritsar, baba daduwal and co??????
