Sikh Clash With Police In London

Apparently a group of people blocked the road which caused the clash with police. This is not the sort of publicity the community needs, the media will pick up on anything negative don't give them an excuse.

Why did this group of people mentioned block the road ? Not a very clever thing to do is it.

EDIT: seen unconfirmed report on Facebook that police took a Singh's dastaar off and broke a Nishaan Sahib. No video footage to prove this.

Look, peaceful protests never see papers or make headlines, this is a fact.

We've tried it, it did not work at least it's getting coverage. No publicity is bad as the saying goes. When all other means fail...

Really think about what this has accomplished. It makes us look like a bunch of fanatical hooligans. Nothing less. This is the problem with our people. We don't think things through. We just get emotional and make noise over everything...whether it be Gurbaksh Singh, rajoana etc... Then we forget all about it until the next thing pops up. We like drama and lose control over our logical minds and get caught up in mob mentality...and then, we blame everyone else for our problems. We feel that there is this conspiracy against us, and every nation in the world hates Sikhi and wants to destroy it... Get off your high horse.

In the west we should protest peacefully for political issues that are happening in India. The people in the Indian embassy were probably gleefully watching the Sikhs pushing the police. This does not help our cause. It would have been better if Sikhs did civil disobedience type of protest like how Sikhs of the Akali movement did during the 1920s. Making noise or blocking the roads is good because it attracts media attention but don't use violence because then we will end up attracting the wrong type of attention.

From my understanding, from hearing callers on BBC Asian Networks Nihals show this morning, that barriers were not put in place as they normally do, and organisers had liaised with the police beforehand telling them how many numbers would be present. Some callers said protesters spilled onto the road as there wasn't enough room thus some sitting on the road, so it couldn't really be avoided. This seems to make sense to me.

It does not make Sikhs look bad if you had heard the protesters that were actually there and exactly what happened. Nihal didn't really say much after every other caller called in with the same story.

Mate there ARE a hell of a lot of people who are anti-Sikh out there. Okay, if you're a timid, keep your eyes towards the floor type and do what you are told, they are fine. Start asserting your own interests on the political or social front and see the invisible horde emerge to try and slap us down. Whether it's things like grooming, retaining some semblance of integrity with our wedding ceremonies or politics back home.

This is not a figment of people's imagination geezer.
