Sikh Council Uk - Anand Karaj

They are not being pushed away, they are being given the opportunity to put their ego to one side and join the path of Sikhi, if Anand Karaj is so important to them I'm sure they'll make the required commitment.

D = If only it was that simple Cisco Singh Ji but yes i 100% support the Sikh Council's approach of education prior to marriage for all couples who desire an Anand Karaj (as that was a no-brainer advocated by many including myself long ago) with the minimum fallback position of a Sikh Marriage Blessing at a Gurdwara should sufficient knowledge or commitment not be there from one half of a couple. The key thing for us is avoiding alienating the couple and future children away from Sikhi and the local Gurdwara Sangat and thus pushing the couple away to go to Mandirs and Churches etc, which is something the Sikh Council proposal can potentially achieve from the sound of things.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj has already outlined the level of commitment required from those that wish to walk the path of Sikhi

D = Don't forget that Dhan Dhan Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj's Anand Karaj with Mata Sulakhani Ji was the first example in history of a former non-Sikh spouse being bought into Sikhi via Anand Karaj.

I agree Cisco Singh that the sanctity of a Gurdwara comes first before money.

But pushing people away from Sikhi to get their marriages blessed at Mandirs and Churches and Dera scams is totally self-defeating for us as we enrich our enemies and strengthen their populations whilst weakening our own Panth's.

Is there any evidence that couples from mixed relationships that have been declined Anand Karaj have had got married in Mosques, churches and Mandirs and the Sikh partner no longer goes to the Gurdwara and has changed their religion.

Ranjeet Singh Ji i personally don't have any statistical analysis to support the common sense inference.

But let's take the case of the Walsall marriage that was blocked recently this month.

The couple just went ahead and got married at a Hindu Mandir subsequently without issue or protest.

I would hazard a guess that they might feel more welcomed by the Hindu community as a result.

And that they might feel happier bringing up their children attending Mandirs in the future as a result.

This is just pure conjecture, do Hindus really get married in Mandirs. They for the most part get married in wedding halls and hotels with a pandit.

I think the Pandits are probably more desperate which they would be more keen for accepting these weddings, yet they are more scornful of two hindus from different castes getting married.

Nevertheless Ranjeet Ji the point still stands.

In as far as that Hindu's did not block wherever the marriage was conducted with the Pandit mumbling his nonsense.

Whereas Sikhs will forever be associated in the couple's mind as the people who "blocked" them from having their marriage and arguably most special day blessed at a Gurdwara.

Ironic given that it was always so-called high caste Qazi's and Pandits that pushed many of Punjab's poorer non-Sikhs (that these Qureshi caste Qazi's and Pandits vehemently despised) in the early 20th century to get married via Anand Karaj and consequently swell Sikh ranks as a result.

Without the Sikhs that came into Sikhi via Singh Sabha parchar and Anand Karaj's of that era there was every chance that Jinnah could have annexed Malwa, Majha and Doaba into Pakistan in 1947 had the numbers been different.

But did the poorer non-Sikhs embrace Sikhi before Anand Karaj or did they did they do this after. This also makes the assumption that only single people embraced Sikhi.

Why u keep makin up ur history for? Muslims were already majority in jalandhar, amritsar, firozpur, and each of those r in majha, malwa and doaba. They were all goin to pakistan anyways, but our ancestors, including my grandad/great grandad, killed as many muslims as possible to ensure we didnt lose land to these sullehh. I for 1 am proud of that too.

Regardin that walsall wedding, they were ALREADY havin a hindu wedding, irrespective of an anand karaj or not!! This is wats gettin on my/our nerves, is how ppl KEEP on sayin how we r pushin ppl away!! Ha! Wat bollox, when they intend to ALREADY have a church/hindu wedding, so how r they bein pushed away? These fuddus care so much bowt sikhi, n want anand karaj, go n tell ur partner bowt sikhi, tell em to become a sikh if ur that adament. Oh and be a bloody sikh urself. Wat makes u fink these tw@ts will have sikh kids, once they have had a hindu/church AND sikh wedding? Gettin sick n tired of these bull arguents! Both partners r sikhs, esp afta anand karaj course = sikh kids = panth expansion.

A sikh women rang sikh channel otherday, sayin how she regrets marryin a hindu, who died recebtly too. The hindu in laws wanted a shaved head for the baby ceremony, n she wanted baby to have incut hair! She openly says, how now shes become religious, she regrets marryin him, but now hes dead, she has the kids all to herself, n will raise em as pure sikhs, with no hindu intervention! End of argument.

My grandfather told me that in pre-partition, 90 out of 100 villages in Kapurthala district were muslims and where Sikhs were a majority in the villages, Muslims constituted a large minority (up to 40 per cent).

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
