Akaal Ji Sahai,

In the UK we have a current polarized view of inter-faith Anand Karajs: some for; some against. Whenever a wedding is planned between an engaged pair, clearly in love, turning up to the Gurdwara with Nimrita, Love and Respect, with their families, they're met with crowds of Sikh yout, angry, chests out, displaying aggression, intimidation and causing a rukus; protesting the Anand Karaj's

Is this all the Singhs are good for nowaways? Stopping weddings? Got nothing better do than acting bad, chests out stopping weddings?

Where are these wastemans when 276 Nigerian girls have been kidnapped by Boko Haram Terrorists in Nigeria? When drugs are being peddled in streets? When girls are being raped and being made sex slaves? Where these "rudeboys" when fighting ISIS and standing up for TRUE injustice. When it's time to give Shaheedi for truth and justice? When they're actually needed?

Stopping weddings pales in comparisons to what these mice in lions outfits should be doing...

I feel all these wastemans / wannabe Singhstas are good for is scaring bacharey (who don't even know nothing, mean no disrespect) at weddings and people who are looking to get married. The gorey already think religious people are extreme - we don't need to blacken the name of Sikhism and make ourselves out like all the islamists.

To be honest, I don't take the O.P. seriously at all. If your going to make lies and say GurSikhs don't love their Guru, then I want you to look yourself in the mirror.

Good post OP. Sikhs are nowhere near what they used to be. When u consider what the shaheeds even in 1984 were like and did and then compare their attitudes to the attitudes of nowadays Sikhs it's insane.

It's not enough to practice truth and not be bit*hy not lie not be a bad soul only in times of dukh. Service has to be in dukh and sukh- and in Peace (Sehaj).

This sort of thing is very common in India especially Punjab

_0121Do1_Singh Bhai Sahib i agree with you 100%

We have bigger priorities that need focussing upon:

like drugs, alcohol, female infanticide, biraderi apartheid, illiteracy, cancer and poverty afflicting members of the Panth.

But instead harassing new Sikhs (which is what those bowing down before Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj with a sincere heart by virtue of marrying by Anand Karaj become) has become the fashionable focal point of attention for some people who don't realise that Sikhi grew in leaps and bounds thanks to Anand Karaj sewa in the past.

When 99% of the population in the UK and Canada are non-Sikhs (with Sikhs being an even smaller minority in other diaspora countries) it's inevitable that year after year these types of marriages will increase, no matter the protests.

For example a young bride of previously Hindu background by virtue of having Anand Karaj recently became Sikh but rather than wishing the newly married Sikh couple well it was considered a destruction of Sikhi bigger than the drugs, alcohol, female infanticide, biraderi apartheid, illiteracy, cancer and poverty affecting millions within our Panth. Why can we not engage with young couple's to increase their links to Sikhi rather than alienate them (particularly where a spouse is not of an aggressively proselytising Abrahamic cult background in which women are considered inferior)?

The question is how do we turn something that could be a demographic time bomb for the community into something that links more and more ordinary people to Sikhi through this. Such marriages are increasing year after year which is an unstoppable reality that can't be ignored by blocking the odd marriage or two and the couples in all cases then severing all links with Sikhi for their future children (who should not be denied Sikhi regardless of what we might think of the parents). The consequences of exclusion would be that the Sikh Diaspora population would be less than half its current size within a generation. Hundreds of thousands of new Sikhs came into Sikhi during the Singh Sabha era as a result of free Anand Karaj sewa that was free from the discrimination of so-called self-styled "high caste" Muslim Qureshi caste Qazi's and Brahmin Hindu Pandits. Those were the days when the Sikh population was rising sharply.

We need to get to grips with reality that a 1% minority will always have members marrying those of other backgrounds.

It's all ultimately about ensuring that the children of such marriages have strong links to their Gurdwara and feel an integral part of the Sikh Panth. This is exactly what happened a hundred years ago when even both spouses comprising non-Sikh couples were given the blessing of Anand Karaj at local Akali Singh Sabha Lehar Gurdwara's and I'm Sikh today as a direct result of this historical reality.

Instead of focussing on this issue, I would humbly request Sangat that it's more important that with our efforts we unite the Panth into having only a single saanjha united Sangat Gurdwara in every pind in Punjab and locality in the West. When matrimonial apartheid in biraderi terms has not been stamped out 316years after 1699, we can only expect an ever higher number of so-called mixed marriages to occur in the future if we do nothing to tackle this anti-Gurmat discrimination. Particularly in the context of Sikhs being likely to fall below 50% of the east Punjab population by the time of the 2021 census if all Mazhabi & Ravidassia Sikhs currently are converted into Balmiki Mandirs & Dera Ballan followers as has aggressively occurred in the last 4 years but has been happening all the way back since 1980 when DamDami Taksal fatefully made the unforgivable mistake to support Indira Gandhi & Congress in the 1980 elections.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
