San Jose Gurudwara Committee Members Violate Panth's Edict

Meet with Kala-Afghana at Dinner party

Waheguroo! Network News Bureau

Tuesday, 29th July 2003

On July 10th, 2003 Gurbax "Kala Afghana" was excommunicated from the Sikh community by Sri Akal Takhat. The straight-forward hukamnama issued by "The Throne of the Almighty," is supported by the entire worldwide Khalsa fellowship. Akal Takht has instructed Sikhs on many occasions to abstain from eating with or marrying into the family of thankahiyas.

A meeting was held between concerned members of the Khalsa panth and the management Committee of the San Jose Gurdwara Sahib in California on Sunday, July 27th. At this meeting Waheguroo! News sources report that the committee verbalized its absolute support for the authority of the Akal Takht. The congregation heard from a few committee members in the meeting, who reported that the consensus of the committee was that the Akal Takhat is the supreme seat of governance of the Sikh community, and the collective voice of the Khalsa fellowship, which, regardless of the individual in the position of the jathedar, must be followed. Therefore, they added, the new gurdwara's langar hall will be maintained according to the Panthic maryada as well.

Despite these resolutions and statements, eleven members of San Jose Gurudwara Sahib's management commitee, along with other sangat members, met with Kala-Afghana and his primary supporter, Professor Gurtej (Chandhigarh), Monday Even

ing (July 28th) for a dinner party at a residence in the San Jose area because no Gurudwara would allow them to be on the premises. Waheguroo! Network News sources report that Professor Gurtej (Chandhigarh), Hardev Shergill (Sikh Bulletin), Sarabjot Savadhi, and San Jose Gurudwara committee members Balwant Chahal (President), Jaswant Hothi (Secretary, Vice President American Gurudwara Prabandakh Committee), Balbir Dhillon (General Secretary), Sukhdev Gill, Bob Gill, Sukhwinder Dhaliwal, Kulwant Sidhu, "Taxi-Driver" Sekhon, K. "Budda" Dhillon, Baksheesh Chahal, and Bachittar Sangha were at this party. Some were initiated Sikhs but still attended this meeting and may have accepted offerings of alcohol, violating not only the Kala-Afghana directive of the Akal Takhat, but basic tenets of Sikhi. Waheguroo! News correspondents are investigating the matter, as resolutions go forward to the Akal Takhat, amongst uproar, against the actions of these individuals.

At the dinner party held at General Secretary Balbir Dhillon's residence, Kala Afghana and supporters openly criticized Sri Akal Takht Sahib. Kala Afghana was asked why he did not appear before Sri Akal Takht Sahib when summoned, he replied that he did answer--in the form of a letter. But when he was further queried as to the contents of the letter and answers to Akal Takht Sahib, he seemed to have no idea what he wrote, if he wrote it at all. He went on to further say that he will never appear before Sri Akal Takht Sahib as the current jathedar and staff of Akal Takht Sahib are worse than the mughal Masa Rangar who invaded Darbar Sahib, took over Akal Takht and had dancing girls inside of Sri Darbar Sahib.

Kala Afghana also went on to imply that Guru Granth Sahib is not really Guru and that worshipping Guru Sahib is idol worship. He said that the sakhi of Guru Arjan Dev Jee doing chaur sahib over Guru Granth Sahib in Darbar Sahib is a lie. He continued saying that Parkash and Sukhasan of Guru Sahib are also useless rituals. He said we ca

n just go on the internet or get a CD-ROM and that can be our guru as well. He said understanding the message is more important than worshipping the Guru.

He also insulted the preservation of Sikh history saying that places where Guru Sahib has visited and where historical events occured do not need to be preserved as commemorating this history is "Brahminism."

Despite his new insults to Sikhi, Kala, still sticking to his old lines, said that one needs to become amrit, not take it, as taking amrit is useless. He then went on to insult Sri Darbar Sahib saying that for three hundred years, twenty four hours a day Gurbani has been read there, but the water still failed to become Amrit, implying that recitation of Gurbani is useless. Continuing to insult the sacred sarovar, he said that this water is the same water that dead bodies decompose in.

Sadly, Kala Afghana's remarks weren't the worst. The remark which seems to have local sangat concerned was made by Jaswant Hothi, General Secretary of Gurudwara Sahib San Jose and Vice President of AGPC. Hothi is quoted as saying "These people [Kala-Afghana and Gurtej] are so knowledgable [in Sikhi] that we need to bring our youth to meet them and learn from them."

Panthic Groups Demand Committee Members Resign for associating with Thankahiya

Tuesday, 29th July 2003

Eleven members of the San Jose, California Gurudwara committee, as reported by reliable Panthic News sources of Waheguroo! Network News, have been found to be in direct violation of the explicit Hukamnama issued by Sri Akal Takhat Sahib regarding the excommunication of Gurbaksh Kala Afghana. Despite the massive multimedia campaign and face to face meetings with loyal members of the Khalsa Panth reiterating the Hukamnama, a dinner party was held by these eleven members among whose guests were Gurbaksh Kala Afghana and Professor Gurtej. Alcohol, forbidden according to the Sikh Rehat Maryada, was reportedly “in the air” and may have been served to several guests as well.

Waheguroo! Network and Khalsa Alliance, along with other pro-panthic groups including the undersigned, hereby demand the resignation of Balwant Chahal (President), Jaswant Hothi (Secretary, Vice President American Gurudwara Prabandakh Committee), Balbir Dhillon (General Secretary), Sukhdev Gill, Bob Gill, Sukhwinder Dhaliwal, Kulwant Sidhu, “Taxi-Driver” Sekhon, K. “Budda” Dhillon, Baksheesh Chahal, and Bachittar Sangha from the management committee of San Jose Gurudwara Sahib. Sri Akal Takht Sahib is also respectfully requested to declare them thankahiya and formally recognize they are in direct violation of the hukamnama along with the other attendees: Professor Gurtej (Chandhigarh), Hardev Shergill (Sikh Bulletin), a

nd Sarabjot Savadhi.

The collective sangat is urged to demand the immediate resignation of these committee members. It has been reported that if the Gurudwara leadership does not abide by the Hukamnama that the Khalsa body will take further stern action to ensure compliance.

Gurudwaras in the Northern California region are hereby being urged to also demand that the San Jose leadership in breach of the hukamnama step down so that new committee members can be chosen.

In the spirit of Panthic Chardee Kalaa,

The Sevadaars of the Waheguroo! Network and The Khalsa Alliance

Panthic Groups Demand Resignations

Committee members violated edict

Waheguroo! Network News Bureau

Tuesday, 29th July 2003

Waheguroo! Network, Khalsa Alliance, and other Panthic groups are demanding the resignation of eleven members of San Jose Gurudwara Sahib's management committee. Sources report they were socialising at a dinner party on July 28th with Kala Afghana and his primary supporter, Professor Gurtej (Chandhigarh). It is expected that many, if not all, of the Gurudwaras in Northern California will demand resignation of these eleven members.

The members of the Gurudwara management committee breached a Hukamnama given by Sri Akal Takht Sahib which clearly states that Sikhs are to abstain from eating with or marrying into the family of those who are excommunicated from the panth and/or his supporters. In addition to dining with Kala Afghana, sources report that the eleven members, some of which are initiated Sikhs, may have accepted offerings of alcohol--therein violating basic tenets of Sikhi and the Kala Afghana directive. Everything should be done to assure removal (from the management committee) of these eleven members, who have clearly undermined the authority of the Akal Takht. Waheguroo! Network, along with Khalsa Alliance, and other Panthic groups are asking that these twelve members be declared 'thankahiya' for their violations.

At Hardev Shergill's Anti-Panthic Dera, Kala-Afghana and Professor Gurtej (Chandhigarh) will meet with invita

tion only guests on Friday and Saturday. Sources tell us many Gursikhs from all around California are planning a massive protest.

The panthic press release is available here: http://www.waheguroo.com/w/pr/?{633Q6-1727...6526-49443-Q33}

They are Backstabbers... One thing is that we should never ever keep trust in indians(ex: SJ gurd. management) by having tha verbal agreement.. Do everything in legal way written way..

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
