What Is '੧'?

Pray Truth for all and say Sat Sree Akaal,

Dear all and Singh123456777 Jee,

You wrote "It is the sword."

Perhaps you mean it is the drawing of the sword.

-----

savinderpalsingh Jee wrote "its just 1, written in gurmukhi . . . everything is one ,"

May I ask why so many more letters and numbers are added to 1?

Balbir Singh

It is in the shape of the sword but it also means that Akaal purkh is the sword.

Balbir Singh

Balbir ji, 1 is vaachak for Brahm because thats the vishya anubandh (topic or matter of discussion) laid down by our Guruji.

For example, if we open a book on organic chemistry, lets say the title of the first chapter is Carbon, then you get to know that organic chemistry is all about carbon. Then it goes into detail for explaining what it wants to tell about carbon in the chapter and further in all chapters.

Similalry, Guru Granth Sahib ji starts with 1, so question comes to mind what is 1? That 1 is Brahm.

How do you get to know that it is Brahm and not anything else?

Well, if we continue the example as above, the title of chapter 1 is Carbon. Ok, what if someone doesn't know anything about carbon?

Lets say the book is meant for graduate students. Still, it gives the basic definition of carbon atom and its structure, discovery etc in beginning of first chapter, or atleast a paragraph, even though for a graduate student it might seem redundant. Hence, if there is a slight doubt in student's mind that organic chemistry is not about carbon, then by reading the first paragraph or the whole book he/she can say that organic chemistry is all about carbon.

In the same way, to make sure that 1 is indeed a vaachak for Brahm and nothing else, whole Guru Granth Sahib is there to be read. If not whole, then atleast with just Mool Mantar any doubt regarding 1 not being Brahm will be cleared.

:)Good question though!

Pray Truth for all and say Sat Sree Akaal,

Dear all and curious_man Jee,

Thanks for your explanation.

I hope I have understood it correctly.

1 is Brahm and all rest that are written are the definition and explanation of 1.

You wrote ". . . everything is one ,"

So, Akaal purkh is also one of everything. Isn't it?

Also, will it be enough if I carry a piece of paper written 1 on it when I fly. I have heard Airlines do not allow a real sword on planes.

Balbir Singh

Whats your dam game this time Mr Balbandar .

Why you taking the p-i-ss about drawing a kirpan.... When no one would say yes to marry you then did you get a picture of some page 3 T-IT and marry that ???

Oh no....forgot---->>>.. you thought you can fornicate with some other relative instead. :biggrin2:

I'm watching you... so you better start worrying cuz i know where your bandarh house is.

Hanji, Balbir ji you have understood it correctly.

Singh 12356777 Jee wrote "It is in the shape of the sword but it also means that Akaal purkh is the sword."

In my opinion, he meant that sword is a metaphotical meaning of Akaal Purakh. Just like Dayalu, kripalu, etc. Sword here means the shakti.. in simple terms, that One is the shkati or power or cause for everything. How? Thats explained in whole Gurbani.

Don't take sword to be literal, its like saying Balbir Singh is like his father, does it mean you have become "father"? No. That means you just have some characteristics (shakal soorat, or chaal, or the way you talk, etc) which is similar to your father.

Hence, generally the Nihang samprada, being trained in martial arts, relate 1 with the sword (shakti) in just a pictorial metaphor, because its in their nature. A businessman, will try to see profit/loss in daily activities, while a scientist wud try to reason, hence a martial artist would try to see martial aspects and be happy :)

You wrote ". . . everything is one ,"

So, Akaal purkh is also one of everything. Isn't it?

Also, will it be enough if I carry a piece of paper written 1 on it when I fly. I have heard Airlines do not allow a real sword on planes.

Balbir Singh

Again you are taking it literally. For example, there is nothing wrong if someone says steam, ice, waves, drops, ocean is nothing but water from the substratum point of view. Similalry, everything is 1, because that 1 = Brahm, is the substratum, or basis, of everything in this universe. How? Again Gurbani further explains that.

:biggrin2:

JUSTAJHAT,

You seem to be entangled with and around the lowest hanging Indree. That is why your mouth and mind are full of words like 'taking the p-i-ss' and 'fornicate'.

*****

Do you have something to say about 1, the beginner of Sree Guru Granth Saahib Jee?

Balbir Singh

I'm not entangled to anything you low life rss.

Am I the one going around deliberately starting posts with hidden agendas ?????????

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
