How Do Indian Sikhs Feel About White Americans Wearing The Turban?

I know this thread is a bit old, but I think I might be of use to those with a similar issue. I am not Sikh, but I lived in New Mexico where I interacted with many of the practice, and I often where turban style wraps for practical/fashion reasons (very long, course curly hair so that sometimes covering/protecting my hair is the only way to get out the door). I hesitated to wear one when I moved there, because I knew I was more likely to directly encounter people who wear a turban for spiritual reasons and I didn't want to insult them. But eventually I did, and to my horror I ended up serving a couple of older Sikh women at my job that day. Guess what? They complimented my turban, and even asked where I purchased the scarf I used to tie it. I admitted I had had been nervous to wear it in a city with so many Sikh because I was afraid of committing cultural appropriation. They said it wasn't offensive to them at least and they thought I looked beautiful in it, basically a "do you boo" sort of attitude. If that's the response I got, I can't imagine someone wearing a turban sincerely with faith and thoughtfulness would get a negative response. Take that for what it's worth, which isn't much lol

Best wishes.
