The Punjab Cabinet approved the Backward Class (BC) status for the Jatt Sikhs of the State on 5 March 2014. With this, Jatt Sikhs will be the 70th community to be included in the category.

The grant of Backward Class status to the Jatt Sikhs will enable them to get reservation in government jobs. Jatt Sikhs of Punjab had been left out of the Indian Cabinet’s decision because the Punjab government had failed to bring the community in the State Backwards Class list.

A few days earlier, the Indian Cabinet decided to include the Jat community in the central list of Other Backward Classes in nine States: Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan.

The latest move by the Punjab Cabinet will now facilitate a proclamation by the Government of India that Jatt Sikhs are now, nationally, a Backward Class.

There should be no quota system. This old age division system is toxic for humanity.

I have seen border line failing student getting admission while high score were getting denied because first preference is for quota ppl.

On the other hand, quota system ensures that there is no discrimination against lower or backward caste. Caste System is a plague. If there is no quota system, Will anyone hire a schedule caste candidate to a reputable post or give admission to such students? What are good alternative to ensure that these people are not discriminated against?

The only one way if we prove that we sikhs don't believe in Hindu rituals and capable of proving that sikhs are in minority class as same as like jainism. The reason is we sikhs don't

come together to tackle with problems. As a sikh we see another sikh in public whether in western or eastern world, we start asking his/her caste and background.,,..

Now this person "sweetshera" what is trying to prove I really don't know. Now we are crying on this forum because Jatts have been thrown into backward class...what a cheap level of hypocrisy..
