Akal Takht, the top temporal seat of the Sikhs, today asked various groups representing the community to file a petition in the United Nations, seeking justice for the victims of 1984 riots.

Akal Takht head priest Gurbachan Singh said he had asked the All India Sikhs Students Federation and other Sikh outfits to file a petition, carrying a million signatures, pertaining to the '84 carnage before the UN.

The perpetrators of the violence should be brought to book at the earliest, he said.

Yes, you are right. The Indian Express is exchanging the term "riots" for Genocide.

The general blind ignorance of the Indian press refuses to let them admit that organised pogroms are an attempt to wholly or partially terminate a particular community (i.e. Genocide) - not mere "riots".

Of course, it's only when Sikhs are massacred.

If it was to be Hindus or Muslims, they would have been the first to be screaming "genocide!!!"
