Going To Club/bar

Wanted to raise this topic for some debate and some positive judgements on the above issue.

I wanted to know if it is acceptable for a practising sikh, where he is amritdhari or not amritdhari to go to places like Clubs and Bars ie Pubs?

This would be on the basis that they are not committing any of the Bujjhar Kareits and just going for a soft drink or some food? I know some people are judgemental and argue that they are disrespecting Sikhi but didn't Maharaaj tell us to represent Sikhi wherever we are? If we have positive morals and can control ourselves in these environments, doesn't that show us to be people of humanity?



What is the sangats view on this?

Brother, even some white people (not even the overly religious ones) raised in good homes frown upon frequenting pubs and clubs (I've come across a few recently and I was rather surprised), so a Guru Da Ladla or Ladli should really take a step back and think about what's going on if they're thinking about such things.

I'll stay out of the "soft drink" debate but I guess it depends on where the individual would draw the line.

I think the line would be drawn at soft drink and thats about it really, i doubt you would see a amritdhari jumping about on the dancefloor or am i wrong? Plus i'd also say that even if the person went once every few months is that still bad?

Shouldn't be a problem if he/she has conquered 5 passions. For those that are in process of conquering them then it can be a temptation, depends how strong the will is to not engage in them.

Why are you going in the first place? Is there not a convenience store near by to get a soft drink or food? Is a soft drink that important that you would walk into such a place?

That's the real point that you should think about.

No good saying that you have to attend the reception for family sake and in a club you go in prepared to spend your own money !

It's about what is the difference in the atmosphere of such places ?

As above, why are you going there? I used to go to pubs and clubs with friends but got bored quickly so would hang around for a bit and then walk back home. At that time of night, the streets would be dead quiet so it would be perfect time to sing a shabad or recite some bani on the way home without distractions.

I might go on a one-off event if I felt it was important and consume a soft drink from its container (rather than a glass that probably hasn't been washed properly).

Not going by yourself but with others whether it is family or friends, lets say if they have an event or just a catchup with friends, apologies for not making it clearer.

I wouldn't go, Idk if my friends would try to sway me but they don't go to there anyway.

Go catchup outside a gurudawara.

Not sounding like a religious kind of guy, but it's more chill atmosphere, plus you're giving pehra in case something happens.

You must always have multiple purposes to what you're doing, that's how you speed things up.

mohal bade bade gurmukha nu manmukh banon teh majboor kar denda, mahol in clubs and bar da ke hunda we all know..we try 1000 times ki no ill not look here and there but the kaami vibrations are so high in these places ki majboor ho janda ...and veer ji mere personal opinion don't go agar sikhi kamoni ya ta...go to some other good place jithe munn na kharb hovey AND STILL YOUR HAPPY.. my 2 cents dear
