It is ironic that Sikhs are justifiably criticising the ban of the film as an attack on the democratic concept of freedom of speech. However what about the attempts of some Sikhs to prevent people like Sarbjit Singh Dhunda from speaking at Gurdwara`s? It seems freedom of expression is only worth championing if and when it suits.

In religious matters freedom of speech is not allowed.Dhunhda can pass comments on folklore stories like Heer ranjha etc and no one will object. But he is not allowed to criticize established traditions of sikhi and our scriptures.

Quote: "When a dog barks the loudest thats when it gets shot."

Daas stresses that we should not use violence to solve our current situation. We must strive to use peaceful means to achieve justice.

Also we must take guidance from elders. We have suffered so much, especially during 1984 period to the present, so much blood has been shed and families destroyed.

This message is especially for the younger Sikhs, we must control our emotions, especially krodh (anger) which is one of the 5 thieves mentioned in Gurbani. As Sikhs, we strive to use peaceful means and when these have failed we take up the sword. However in this day and age of nuclear bombs, cruise missiles, tanks, fighter jets e.t.c. it will not be right to take up arms. We have no desh, no army and no organisation. Also we lack Sikhs with the Jeevan and Bhagti to fight in the battlefield. Where are today's Sant Jarnail Singh's and bhai Fauja Singh's?

Lets apply as much pressure as we can such as demonstrations, strikes, protests, lobbying e.t.c. and also build up our Gursikhi jeevan. It is the latter aspect that is lacking most in the Panth, we must strive to have amritvela, do at least prescribed nitnem banees and naam simran.

I hope Badal sarkar reverses their decision and make the right decision - allow the film to be screened in Punjab.

Satgur Mehar Karan.

The film is great at bringing the message of what happened to the Punjab over to the masses. In the showing I went to the audience was from all communities, there is nothing anti Hindu and in fact many of the actors are Hindus.

The corrupt Indian system comes under attack in the film , so the Badals, Congress and Police feel threatened hence the ban. They fear a velvet revolution that will sweep them away.

Its hard to criticise other Sikhs but the majority of our Religious and Political leaders have shown complete cowardice in not protesting at the massive atrocities committed on the Sikhs and Punjabis. Even today they are showing impotence that they cannot even talk about what happened in the last 30 years. Butcher Beant Singh's son is the Congress MP for Anandpur Sahib, do the Nihangs care about this? The BJP MLA for Amritsar Laxmi Chawala refuses to speak in Punjabi and supports Shiv Sena/RSS and Police killers of Sikhs and Badal makes her a Minister in his Government.

Kuljinder Singh Sidhu and the all those involved in the film have shown more bravery and got the message across to the masses better than most others.

The Indian ban looks more ridiculous by the day, its the kind of thing colonial Britain or the Soviet Union did and they ended up in the dustbin of history in a fairly short time.
