Racists

SSA,

Hi everyone.

Well I have been unemployed for quite a while now. Which is bad enough on its own. But my last 2 interviews have left me feeling quite bad.

on both occasions i got the feeling that the interviewers where racist.

I got quite a few snidely looks ect. is this due to the current climate. ie with 'Asians' all over the papers for bad stuff . and white people reading the papers everyday about how bad Asians are?

ive never felt this amount of hatred before. ie i have many white friends in the past. but now i just feel totally different about white people and how racist they can be.

It's part of life here in the west !

You have to learn to accept it.

I know some people will deny that it exists, but I can guarantee that in the minds behind most white people, they see us as coloured and outcast even though they try and be fair.

For example, imagine there are 2 candidates for an interview and one is you and the other a white folk.

Now, you both have exactly the same things on your CV and same education, experience ..etc..

Now, also imagine a very little extra piece of expereience or education that we call 'X'.

What happens in a situation if only ONE candidate has this little extra 'X"-

-If it is you who has the 'X" then it gets ignored and the white guy gets chosen.

-If it is the white guy with the 'X", then it's pretty obvious, they pick him!!

Now, there are also many white folk out there who are not predjudice or racist and they try very hard to not be.

But what happens is that when in a situation where they have to use just their gut feeling or a little hunch, they always neglect the coloured person without even realising !

Here is a counter question. Aren't Sikhs (or lets say Punjabis in general) racist? Aren't almost all (but not all) people from the subcontinent (India/Pakistan/Bangladesh/Sri Lanka) racist towards each other to some degree?

And "raj", what exactly is your question here?

This is what I always say !!!!

Deep down, no matter how hard we try, there comes a little situation where we WILL differentiate and be predjudice without even realising !!

This may happen on such a minor scale that we don't even notice !

And yes, us punjabis and indians are probably the most intolerant and predjudice on the planet !!

When you look around at the white folk and see how much they actually tolerate, then you realise that in a 'role reversal' we would struggle.

I'm going to disagree with luckysingh99 for the most part.

I can see how racism could be an issue in smaller businesses because it's easier for them to get away with it, but for large firms I definitely don't think that this is the case.

I am an amritdhari bibi who wears a dastaar and I have found that I have a huge advantage over other candidates purely because I'm different and therefore, memorable. People always recognise me and remember me which is Satgurus kirpa. It's also easier to network with people because again, they remember you.

You're always going to meet racist people. I get people shouting things at me out of car windows every single time I leave the house but I don't let it phase me and neither should you. If you feel insecure, other people will be able to tell.

You have as much right as anyone to be here. Our forefathers didn't give their lives for Britain so that other people could treat us like rubbish and insult us.

I am an amritdhari bibi

I think you should look for other options, like self employment or small business.

Some suggestions

1. Start a food joint like a Pakora Junction or

http://kulchaland.com/

2. Start trading, for example flea market,

http://www.franchising.com/

3. Become a transporter

Get trained and drive a cab, bus or a truck

There is an old saying -

Service is good

Better is business

Best is farming

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
