Hindu Man Arrested With Knife at San Fransisco International Airport

Claims to be Sikh and says Butter Knife is a 'religious symbol'

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Air marshals arrested a [Hindu] man after he pulled a four-inch knife on a flight from Newark to San Francisco and began cutting fruit.

Officials say the plane was over Colorado yesterday when a flight attendant spotted the knife. The plane landed at San Francisco International Airport at about 2:40 p.m.

He's now in the San Mateo County jail while officials decide whether to charge him -- and what to charge him with. It's not clear if the man got the knife on board in Newark or at an overseas airport.

The man was on United flight #71. Its final destination was Seattle.

Nobody was injured.
