Did anyone see the smagams from the Midlands last year? I saw one particular programme online (I think it was on the Sikh Channel website) and Baba Ji related a story about a Singh in Dubai who had hit tough times health-wise. I won't ruin the ending as it really is a wonderful, goosebump-inducing story that sent shivers down my spine.

I'll tell you what I remember. Now gather round children as I have a tale to tell thee... :biggrin2:

The story takes place back in the days when Indians first moved to Dubai for work. So I'm guessing this was post-2000. Anyway, there was a Singh over there who'd been there for a fair number of years. He was doing well and things were as good as they could be.

Unfortunately something happened which caused his health to take a nose-dive. I can't remember what exactly the issue was but I think it affected the Singh to such an extent that everything in his life began deteriorating and could not even work anymore. Anyway, Singh Ji visited many doctors and specialists and they simply had no answer to his problem; medication he was being prescribed wasn't working, etc. His business partner (who was a native Dubai-an) saw the Singh's downturn in fortunes and suggested maybe his problems were not of the conventional variety if you know what I mean. :nono:

The Singh was pukka on his nitnem and his belief in Sikhi. He did not entertain such outlandish ideas but it did get him thinking about the nature of his recent misfortune. Regardless, he continued reciting and practising Gurbani. He believed if his situation were to improve Gurbani would be the key and nothing else mattered. Anyway, things hit such a low-point that it seemed like he was near death. His friend (the aforementioned business partner) couldn't see his mate suffering in this way, so he implored the Singh to let him take him to a "Baba" who was of course a Muslim healer. Singh Ji was against the idea even though he was in a pretty bad shape.

After months of pleading from his friend, Singh gave in especially as it seemed he wasn't going to make it, and they went to see this Islamic healer. The first time they went to see the healer the place was packed out and they didn't get a chance to meet the Baba. The second time there was an accident on the highway and they had to turn back home. The third time they went and there wasn't many other people there but for some reason the Baba told one of his "sevadaars" that he didn't want to see anymore "patients". Singh Ji told his mate that maybe it was written that he was never supposed to get better. His friend get's annoyed with the Baba and he promises Singh Ji that he should accompany him just one final time and ask the Baba what his problem is.

So they depart for Baba for the fourth time and on this occasion they finally get to meet him. Before they do, the "Sevadaar" who meets the people beforehand has a word with the Singh and his friend. He is cordial and respectful and Singh Ji's mate begins to explain about the Singh's condition. The sevadaar tells them to wait for a bit as he goes to speak to his Baba Ji. Eventually Singh Ji is taken inside to meet the healer and all hell breaks loose. The Baba starts screaming in horrific fear. He puts his arms over his eyes and starts shouting to the Singh "Go away, go away".

The Singh's mate freaks out and takes Singh outside. Singh is of course totally bewildered not only at what occured but his generally in dire condition. Anyway after a while the Baba reluctantly calls in Singh Ji. He apologies for what happened earlier and asks Singh to explain his problem to him. Baba listens carefully and says "You have nothing to worry about. This period of dukh was always meant to be experienced by you. The reason I began screaming is because each time you've come here to see me here, you've not come alone. You have Singhs in blue clothes with you at all times. There's one Singh in particular who I saw today who was holding his own head in his hand and had a kirpaan in his other hand."

At this the Singh began sobbing and started saying "Dhan Baba Deep Singh Ji, Dhan Baba Deep Singh Ji". So, apparently such was Singh's devotion for Sikhi that all hope was not lost. The Baba told Singh to tell Singh's family in his pindh back in India to hold a Sehaaj Paat for his chardhi-kala. Eventually, from what Baba Ranjit Singh said, the Singh get's better and the relayed this account to Baba Ji when he met him.

This is what Baba Ji told the sangat as best I can remember. No masala from my end. :biggrin2:

Balle Ni Balle @Kaljugi, that is the BEST post i have read since ive been involved with this forum (last year). Also jus wanna ask u a question, this baba, wat type of muslim was he? Apart from a shook one, loool. Na seriously wat i mean is, is he a sufi/peer? Coz if he was a sunni, he probably wudda told the singh 2 pee off unless he converts. Also how come he told the singh to hold a sehaj paat? or do u think he said 2 the singh, jus hold some sort of ceremony? im shockd the muslim didnt give him a taveet/muslim locket/string stuff. anyways, big up kaljugi, u went thru all that trouble 2 write that story, nuff love. Oh but be warned theres gonna the "Doubt brigade" with their million n one queries of the validity of this story.

back to op, I'm not a big fan of ranjit singhs dress sense or backing crew.. but he is very good at preaching and he is very in touch with the sangat... imo he is first rate when it comes inspiring and educating the common man - my point is u can respect someone without approving of everything they do.. disliking baba for points mentioned is pretty petty.

A person's sense of style has nothing to do with his/her merits and character. By saying backing crew are you talking about his jatha? If you are, leaders of the Panth have almost always had companions. The Sikhs together would be a jatha. Those Singhs that are with him do Kirtan seva with him, I see nothing wrong with that. What fault do you see in that?

Its not like those guys are his possy to go around intimidating/impressing people.

I think we're both makin the same point with regard to sense of style and character, I won't answer th second point because its not really a major issue - baba ji is one of the good guys s'all that matters.

I dont have much knowledge but i have come to understand that every sant has a different role to play....they are here to motivate you in diff ways...its mentioned quite a bit as to how sant ji dresses...but its because of him that a lot of the youth thinks it good to wear a bana ...if u were to consistently listen to a few of his diwaans u wuldnt even question him...plus its funni how a mistake is bought up of such a great person which was made years ago but we fail to think the amount of mistakes we have made in the last week?? Day???
