Thank you change is going quite well and the schedule's "in" and i'm comfortable with it. Have a wide array of daalan (moongi, chana, masaran, kaalay cholay, white chollay ect) and some barian. Plenty of protein there with peanutbutter sandwiches, vege sandwich with lettuce, tomato, cheese, cucumber, 1000 island dressing. Occasionally have rice and nutella sandwiches. I used to make a lot of potato sabji, might start again to increase callory intake .

That's cool. Do you train as well?

I would take that as a no bhajee.

Now that winter is here, I have been having porridge 2-3 times a week. I also tried white quinoa (as suggested in another thread) and it tastes fine. I have also had red quinoa which seemed to have a different texture... the white one was more like rice and the red was more like seeds, although perhaps that was down to cooking time. I used to eat steamed veg most days with my meals but I have got bored of that so having more salads and snacking on raw veg, nuts and raisins.

I need to go training today, had a couple of days off so should have a good workout.

Rice and nutella sandwiches, that sounds horrible.

GuptKaur seems like you're on top of things and same with you Balait paaji!

Good job, I'm still struggling to put on some proper mass by eating healthy and working out consistently. Have been eating quite clean - daal, (two rotian - sometimes three), creamy broccoli soup, high protein whole grain pasta, peanut butter, whole grain bread and other things i can't think of right now.

I do indulge in an apple pie here and there and some sugar, but I try not to. Before and after I do clap push ups, dumbbels and pull ups I take a chamcha of organic raw honey. It works as a good aid and then a protein shake with one banana and a little milk with 25ish grams of protein.

I have a problem eating as much as I should. People who work out keep telling me to eat so much that my stomach explodes, but I feel like if I do that i will just get fat lol so i'm just eating clean and normally. I don't want to get massive and turn into a body builder, just want to be physically fit.

After it gets a bit warmer hopefully I've gained some muscle and then i'll start running at the track.

Well I made it to the gym, so that was good.

Bhajee (singh559), what's your actual workout, maybe you need to change it? Atm I am training to tone, so gaining muscle and not having any problems. Do you take extra protein within 60mins of completing a resistance workout? If you are trying to gain, then you can eat extra pasta, rice, bread. Just eat more often, rather than masses that you cant handle.

also, how often are you training? You need sufficent rest periods in between workouts.

Wholemeal pasta instead of white is better, same as brown rice rather than white, and wholemeal bread rather than white.

Daal, sabjia in olive oil thorkaa rather than butter thorka, or other healthy oil, is better for you.

biscuits, cakes too much sugary food not good.

Beans, lentils, good.

fruit, salad all good.

mcdonalds, chips, fried food and all that not good.

Auley means olives...

Has anybody had cous cous, and do they like it?

Roti good, paroteh if u can digest them ok, but less on th butter.

dahi, milk all good, but if u cannot have fullfat then semi-skimmed or skimmed is better, i use organic semi-skimmed, taste is much better too.

organic food is good if u can afford it.

Basically i personally have found thru my health condition experience, the best foods are daal/sabji roti, and they fill me up more than western food.

If you dont have a health condition then yoghurt milk butter in moderation is ok...

Crisps have now n again, just for taste, but instead fruit,. other alternatives,eg:dried fruits better..

coriander, mint, jeera, tumeric, chillies have good properties too.

I find punjabi food made with right ingredients is much better for me, rather than western foods...anybody have this issue too?

Ps: if anybody has an eating disorder they should go to their doctor, rather than getting help from elsewhere first.

I used to go to the gym, but now that I don't feel like it I just do some simple stuff at home. 30 pound dumbbell curls, clap push ups (push up and them clap your hands) until failure, pull ups, various types of sit ups.

I know I usually have a calorie deficit so I'm going to start making mashed potatoes as that helps. Yesterday I had some mashed potatoes, bread and broccoli soup and after a couple hours I took a teaspoon of organic honey and gave a go at pull ups. I did 13, the most I've ever done.

Quite sore today

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
