Anyone who is interested in punjab politics..please give your input- who should/ shouldn't win this election? why and why not? who will win this election in punjab? why?

At this point, I really want congress to win this year election, only because - there are predictions land prices will go up if they win and we wanted to sell our land this year. Some people may call this selfish act that i m putting my personal interest front instead of people of Punjab interest... There is no question, It is an selfish act. I will explain my reasoning behind why this sudden change?

Just last summer, after speech of manpreet badal of people's party in Toronto, Canada. I was excited to see- new ray of hope in punjab, thought to myself- things could really change in punjab for good..despite of manpreet badal leaning on communism( i have no problem with modified communism as its close to socialism = sikhism), i felt he and his party is definitely breath of fresh air and many living abroad agreed..i was steady fast to vote for ppp putting public interest first over my personal interest. But things went from fair to worse in punjab, his two right hand men crossed floors, people in punjab failed to understand - need for change in punjab and in most popular surveys in punjab- people party of punjab had little if not no support whatsoever from public of punjab.

So if public of punjab are so spineless, blind, self-centered, failed to see a need for change from same ol' crap, why should i (born in calcutta, raised in toronto) give a damn?

Please share your input?

Where would one go (website-wise or even books) in order to learn about the political landscape of Punjab, ideally from the end of the British Raj up to the modern day?

I have a vague grasp of Badal and his clan and their influence on Punjabi politics and general life, and that was only since I began frequenting this website around 18 months ago.

I think Badal Dal will get re-elected.. Badal has done way too much "seva" to be put back in power. His propoganda will work in my opinions. I could never throw any support to the Congress due to what they did in Punjab in the 1980s/90s. Thousands of innocents murdered by para-militaries, Police, and black cats through the directives given by the Punjab government of the day. They drowned the legitimate Khalistan independance movement in blood. Could never support them.

Badal Dal have broken too many promises to the people. From giving justice to the victims of State violence to progressing to get the control of Punjab's waterways. They brought the Anandpur Resolution into reality and Badal himself signed it.. but have now sadly forgotten every point made under the resolution. The Badal government has blatantly been taking bribes and money from people who want to get certain positions and permissions, and its been happening for years. The Badal Dal tugs at the hearts of Sikhs to get the panthic vote but does nothing for the panth's betterment. Badal's party controlling the SGPC dosen't help.

PPP. Manpreet Badal ran away from home 'cause his Uncle didn't give him the shiny chair to sit on. He took amrit years before in order to get into politics and solidify his position and quickly discarded the 5 Kakkars once he became established. A real politician who was there to benefit Punjab wouldn't have done that. He did what he had to do in order to become a politician.. a man who dosen't truly have the people's beneift in mind shouldn't be supported.

At the end of the day, all of the issues that Sant Jarnail Singh Ji raised in the 70s and 80s are still issues today. I wont list all the injustices and denied rights that have been thrown at Sikh in India, but a seperate nation is the only solution if Sikhs wish to leave free with liberty and justice.

Its all up to Punjab's people though.. its evident that those people don't want change, don't want betterment, don't want prosperity as every time they voice their opinion Badal or Amrinder ride in.

I apologise if I said anything wrong.

It's hard to figure out exactly what these political parties want to accomplish. I know Akali Dal Amritsar is pro-Khalistan, but Khalistan isn't attainable if Sikh youth are meddling with drugs and alcohol, and the farmers are plagued by cancer and debt. These are things that PPP are committed to dealing with. I think slightly socialist policies can help the farmers to get back on their feet. We have saabat soorat amritdharis in power now, and they are completely corrupt. Having an outer appearance of a sant sipahi, does not always mean that the person has a good heart.

Communism is anti religion. It has nothing to do with sikhism.

Manpreet is an opportunist who wants to fill his coffers. He has no principles. It was he

who went to dera sirsa sauda much before filing of nominations started.Where were his

ethics then.Leave aside religion, dera sirsa chief is a rapist and lmmoral. How can manpreet

give good governance if he begs such persons.

My guess is PPP will be a complete wash out.Badal party and congress will contest close most probably

badal will majority. Badals are corrupt and so is congress and congress has too much blood of sikhs on their hands.

So called bittu group is supporting congress. What a shameless people..They could have remained neutral.

I never mentioned raw communism.. but modified communism which aligns with socialism. There are lot of similarities between two. Here is an excellent link explains difference between socialism and communism -

http://www.buzzle.co...-socialism.html

Communism is more close towards socialism compare to capitalism in democratic society towards socialism. As i mentioned earlier, backed with our guru's universal thinking - anandpur sahib resolution of sikhs recognized by panth promotes socialism.

I feel that the PPP should win as we all know how the Akalis and Congress have failed the people of Punjab.  Up until now the voting in Punjab favours the two parties but now there is an opportunity for people to test the waters with Manpreet Badal.  Let's face it what has anybody got to lose?

The unfortunate thing is that I really would like a pro Khalistan Party to win but this will not happen as nobody in Punjab wants to entertain the thought.  Maan is a good clean person but an awful politician with no direction.  He should have approached Daljit Singh Bittu group and Manpreet Badal and the three should have formed a coalition based on Anna Hazares anti corruption policies to win over the public.

The likelihood of PPP alone winning the election is slim but it will inflict damage to Badal Akali Dal but in the process will also inflict damage to Congress votes too.  What would have been a victory for Congress in this election may play into the hands of Badal now with a third party.

My only hope is the PPP wins enough seats so that Congress or the Akali Dal will have to form a coalition with the PPP.  Similar to the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats in the UK where the least popular party became the most important player in parliament.

I have lived in Punjab and know rubbish talks of communists/socialists about sikhism. They used to say Guru Gobind singh was the biggest

communist. This was to lolly pop innocent sikhs wheras their agenda was everything against sikhi. They used to propagate why the hell there is sarovar

in harmandir sahib. It should be used to plant paddy to cover food shortage.

There are many more things these socialists used to utter against sikhs which should put anyone to shame. Many times all that glitters is not gold.
