Khalistani veer is right that raag is very important...but to say that you can't sing gurbani any other way is pure messed....

in fact...sant attar singhji or sant teja singh ji (one of them) was singing gurbani as they were going for a walk and they were singing totally out of tune but immersed in the love of gurbani....some person walked by and started cursing them for singing so badly and sant ji replied: guru dhay gun gavoo, bhavay kathayang udaoo.
