Sgpc Elections!

I'm suprised at the lack of posts regarding the SGPC elections scheduled for September 18

Lets make this topic a sticky and post any news updates or info regarding the elections.

These elections I think only take place every 4 years. These elections are very important, the SGPC represents the highest auhtority nest to the Akal Takht.

They have a budget of Rs.580 crore. they have the great responsibilyt to utilize these funds effectively.

The upcoming elections will decide who gets a place inside the SGPC like an MP.

Currently it seems that Parkash Singh Badal current Chief Minister of Panjab will win as usual. This will be very bad for the panth as he is widely regarded as anti-panthic.

The only legitimate options Simranjit Singh Maan and Daljit Singh Bittu will not get enough votes to win.

It was good to hear that bhai Ranjit Singh in his Willenhall diwan spoke about Sant Samaj members entering politics, this was good to hear. I wonder if bhai Ranjit Singh is part of Sant Samaj anymore, or has he left now? Just saw PTC News (Badal News) and Harnam Singh Dhumma was speaking on same stage as Badal. This was dissapointing to see.

I hope Maan and Bittu at least get some votes to make difference inside SGPC.

If SGPC had good members recent beadbi, dastar issues would have been taken care of more effectively.

Its dissapointing that 'Sikhs' in Panjab would rather give their votes to Congress or Badal for SGPC seats, this is ridiculous!

Its well known that certain parties distribute drugs and liqour to get votes, shame on them! How can those that distribute lioqour and drugs represent Sikhs at the highest committee of Sikhs!

Lets keep this thread going with updates and news until the actual election itself on Sep 18.

Benti to admin to make this a sticky and keep in 'whats happening' section at least until the votes have taken place. Dhanvaad jeeo! These elections are important to Sikh worldwide we must keep up to date with what is happening.

It's rigged just as usual. Just like any other major political vote.

I would usually give a solution to my answer, but there is no small answer here and it would require massive team-work to overthrow the current SGPC, which a mere forum would no way be able achieve, not to mention a lot of people (if pulled in from outside the forum) may not be able to comprehend the corruption of SGPC.

"Former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh today alleged that the SGPC has become a "den of corruption" and said it was the duty of the Sikhs to get rid of its administration. He said ever since Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal took over the SGPC, it has become a den of corruption.

It was the moral duty of the Sikhs, including him, to get rid of such a corrupt organisation. "The SGPC elections were held, once when I was the PPCC president and then again while I was the CM. But the Congress party took no part in them," he claimed.

"Nevertheless, I have every right to express my individual opinion and call upon my community to vote for cleansing of the SGPC and free the Gurudwaras from those constantly mis-managing them”.

- Amarinder Singh

Thanks admin ji for making this sticky.

Astral ji we should be looking for solutions we know that congress and Akal Dal Badal are corrupt.

What can be done to get good Gursikhs inside the SGPC.

I know this forum will not make much of a difference its more for awareness.

Amarinder Singh is corrupt just like Badal. Thats the problem the two main candidates, the parties with most power and money, Congress and Badal, are corrupt.

We need to provide more support to smaller parties which have genuine love towards Sikhi and are interested in parchar of Sikhi.

Sikhchannels have been poor in regards to coverage and discussion shows on SGPC elections.

Amarinder's allegations on fuel expenses baseless: Makkar Puneet Pal Singh Gill/TNS (tribuneindia.com)

Ludhiana, September 14

SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar has claimed that the amount of Rs 1.62 crore was spent on petrol for his official car as well as two escort gypsies in last six years time.

"Capt Amarinder Singh, Paramjit Singh Sarna, Ravi Inder Singh and his opposition parties are making these baseless statements," said Makkar. Makkar said he has been allotted a Toyota Camry and two Maruti Gypsies (as escort vehicles).

"Besides, it is for three vehicles and not one. I spent at least Rs 3,000 worth of petrol everyday, which is used in Camry alone. Whenever I travel in the country, I use my official car and I stand on my words that I did not misuse the SGPC funds for the purpose," said Makkar, who even claimed that he is not even having the SGPC help staff at his house in Ludhiana. Makkar said, "He (Capt)should restrain himself from making such misleading statements or face the wrath of the Sikh community."

Sarna dares Badals to a live debate on SGPC poll eve

Perneet Singh

Tribune News Service

Amritsar, September 14

DSGMC Chief and Panthic Morcha leader Paramjeet Singh Sarna today threw an open challenge to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal to enter into a debate with him on a TV channel on the eve of the SGPC elections and let the electorate decide whom it wants to reign in the mini parliament of Sikhs.

Addressing mediapersons here today, Sarna said, "The father-son duo is running away from the Sikh issues. Let them come face to face with me in a debate. I will prove who is the Congress agent? They are boasting of their government's achievements in the SGPC poll rallies while remaining tightlipped on whether they have any plan to curb apostasy and promote Sikhism."

He said if the SGPC elections are conducted in a free and fair manner, the Badals will surely get defeated. "The Badals have never campaigned so intensively in any SGPC election which shows how tough fight they are facing. They cannot win the elections this time without resorting to undemocratic ways." He claimed that the Panthic Morcha has received a good response and they are in a strong position in 80 to 90 seats.

He lashed out at the SAD for raking up political issues in the elections, alleging that the religious issues don't figure in the ruling party's agenda. Sarna alleged that "patits" (apostates) are running the poll campaign of the SAD and in some places the RSS and BJP men are also heading their campaign. He stated that if the SAD is serious about not allowing "patits" to caste their vote in the SGPC elections then they should place advertisements in all the newspapers, cautioning them that stern action would be taken against any "patit" found casting vote in the elections.

The DSGMC chief urged the Centre to keep a close watch on Punjab and deploy Central forces to ensure free and fair SGPC elections.

Sukhbir confident of SAD-Sant Samaj combine winning SGPC polls (expressindia.com)

PTI | 05:09 PM,Sep 14,2011Moga, Sep 14 (PTI) Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal today said he was confident of the SAD-Sant Samaj alliance candidates sweeping the SGPC polls to be held on September 18. "Not only SGPC polls, the SAD would also win the Assembly polls early next year by dubbing Congress," he said addressing rallies in this district. He made it clear that the SAD would not tolerate indiscipline in the party. Party patron and Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has earlier expelled former finance minister Manpreet Singh Badal and Sukhjit Singh Kaka from the party on disciplinary gorunds, he said. Kaka is contesting SGPC polls as a rebel candidate from Dharamkot opposing SAD's official nominee. Sukhbir said Kaka first agreed to contest SGPC elections from Dharamkot and made a commitment to the Chief Minister that he would not contest the Vidhan Sabha elections and assured that he would help former minister Tota Singh if he is given a party ticket from Dharamkot Assembly seat. He, however, refused to obey the party president and party patron's decision and that was reason of his expulsion from the party, the SAD chief said. He was critical of Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh and charged him with opposing every development work of the state government. He also accused the former chief minister of approaching the Centre with a request to stop supply of funds to the state government for urban development projects like roads, sewerage, street lighting and water supply in 50 towns. He claimed that the Sikh electorate would never tolerate Congress which "always tried to take control of the SGPC without success". He said Sikhs would never forget operation Blue star and the 1984 riots.

==================================================

It looks like Badal will win easily, so expect the same service from SGPC and Akal Takht over the next few years.

Anti-Badal/Congress parties like Simranjit Singh Maan and Daljit singh Bittu should have joined forces to form one party, instead they are standing against each other. This was a big mistake.

The only solution is to completely remove political party influence in these elections. SGPC is a religious institution not to be used for politics.

Update:

Many voters with identical names in CM's village Badal

Balwant Garg/TNS

Badal (Muktsar), September 16

Several houses in Chief Minister’s Badal village have voters with identical names. The SGPC voters’ list reads that Raja Ram Singh (vote no. 709), Raja Ram Singh (vote no 713) and Raja Singh (vote no 720) are three members of a family living in one house.

The names of SGPC voters in another house are Jagdish Ram, son of Chuhar Ram Singh (vote no. 671), Jagdish Singh son of Chuhar Singh (vote no. 673), Amandeep Singh, son of Chuhar Singh (vote no 674) and Amandeep Singh, son of Chuhar Ram Singh (vote no 675). In this house live two more SGPC voters-Bhana Devi Kaur, wife of Chuhar Ram Singh, and Bhana Devi, wife of Chuhar Singh.

The voter list has many more such voters in the village. Muktsar Deputy Commissioner Arashdeep Singh Thind said it was being verified if these voters were genuine. Badal village is part of the Gidderbaha SGPC seat where Gurpal Singh Gora, sitting SGPC member of the SAD(B) is the candidate. Before Manpreet Badal was ousted from the SAD(B), Gora was known as his confidant. Hence, there are high stakes on this seat. The total number of SGPC voters in Badal village are 1,720.
