During the mid 19th century the loyalty of Punjabi Hindus and Muslims towards the Sikh Kingdom went missing? what happened to Punjabis?

Today Punjab is split between India and Pakistan yet it is clear the only people who want to speak Punjabi are the minority Sikh people.

After the Multan uprising the British conquered Punjab clearly using Hindu/Muslim aide.

It seems as though Sikhs are the ones who kept Punjab together and the British imperialist knew this. So they divided the religious communities to take over and Punjab region was most affected in 1947. The Sikh population was also the most scattered because of hostile people.
