Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

I am a birthday freak, I love celebrating birthdays. Usually I try to do something special for my parents and my relatives on their birthdays and just make a huge deal of celebrating their special day. But rarely we do anything for my birthday, mostly because of its timing i guess and the fact whenever we have planned a big event for me something bad happened and we have had to cancel. So I have settled for always buying and wearing a new dress for my birthday.

This year I want to do something more. I am going to bring in my birthday by doing Simran/Path all night and then as soon as morning hits make Parsad and head to the Gurudwara Sahib with parsad and Rumalla Sahib and have Giani Ji do ardas and take hukamnama for me.

What other things Gurmat things can I do to celebrate my special day?

It's great to do Gurmat things on birthdays. Maskin Ji used to say that in Maya, the whole world celebrates birthdays. But they do not realise that death, and hence the opportunity to do Bhagtee, is reducing every year. If a birthday "celebration" induces someone to join with Guru Ji, this can only be a good thing.

Paath/Simran on a birthday is a great idea. Others have invited Sangat to join in with Seva/Simran by having a Sukhmani Sahib da Paath. But make sure the focus of the Sangat remains on Bani, and it does not eventually turn into a social.

Having said all of the above, Sikhi doesn't prohibit fun, so by all means have fun, but priority is Bani/Bhagti/Naam. :)

Happy Birthday ji,

What you are planning is just great !

would only advice that you contemplate and follow that Hukum throughout the day and receive WAHEGURU jeeo's true blessing.

Man I hate it when my birthday comes around, I feel uncomfortable being the centre of attention! But paath sounds good for a birthday, to put the focus on babaji instead of oneself.

WJKK WJKF bhenji

first of all thanks to guru Nanak, that guru blessed this murakh through his bani.

Its not about celebrating birthday or any other occasion. The day you feel inside that every moment is new and you do not grow up (mental) only once a year, you will start celebrating birth (manukh janam) every moment (this is real chardi kala you are happy all the time)

I hope if this make any sense.

God bless

Gurfateh
