Hi i need some advice,im a sikh,i have been brought up in a sikh family but never was religous. My life usually consisted of making money, chasing girls, drinking the usual punjabi youth and i have been this way for years.

recently i met a singh and sat down with him just basically talking about business after a while we started talking about religion and sikhs in general(have not really got any religous friends so this was different for me)so we talked for about an hour, after our conversation he gave me a counter that you put on my thumb and asked me to do the mool mantar while im driving or just relaxing and too press the counter after i complete each part, so i started and as time passed i was saying the mool mantar at least 400 times a day just this has changed me a lot i can control my thoughts,my actions i hear it before i go sleep, when i wake up in the morning, now i feel different about everything ive stop drinking, clubs, the immoral stuff and i feel pure like i was when i was younger , i have no doubt that i have been blessed by waheguru. anyway now ive started to learn how to wear a turban, i want to be on the path of changing my whole life so i thought the best way to learn is to live it and to become a singh but by doing this im coming away from my friends they spend most their time in pubs, clubs and i have not got much in common with proper singhs ive tryed meeting at my local gudwara my punjabi is crap and my sikhi knowledge is not very good plus im all tattood up,so im frowned upon i feel like i dont fit in.so now im following sikhi by myself. so i just need some advice about what i can do.

first congrats on finding Sikhi.

Second, I think you might try getting in touch with Singhrow because I have a feeling you'll find very understanding people once you get in touch with them. And you'll no longer feel like you don't belong.

You know whats funny? Recently I was sitting with 2 white sikhs, one had recently became part of Sikhi and one had lost her way and had recently started coming back to sikhi. You know what the one that was coming back asked the new one? she asked, 'so have you started learning punjabi?.....no?.....don't worry now that you have started on this path, punjabi will come too". If white sikhs, who didn't even know punjabi can learn, don't worry you will learn too.

Hi

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਾ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਫਤਿਹ (Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh)

i need some advice

You have 1430 angs of Sahib Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji to advice you :)

im a sikh

See you don't need advice, you need love, because you've already realized who you are :)

i have been brought up in a sikh family

You are fortunate to have been born in a Sikh family. Not everyone is that lucky you know :)

but never was religous

Forget the "was" part, lets look at the "is". Now you ARE religious and that is what matters :)

My life usually consisted of making money, chasing girls, drinking the usual punjabi youth and i have been this way for years

No problem. Now you have been blessed,so promise yourself that you won't go back on this track

recently i met a singh

See this was destined to happen. When Guru Sahib wants to bring you on His path, He sends His Gursikhs first :)

after our conversation he gave me a counter that you put on my thumb and asked me to do the mool mantar while im driving or just relaxing and too press the counter after i complete each part, so i started and as time passed i was saying the mool mantar at least 400 times a day

That was Vaheguru Ji Himself who sent that tool for you to start doing simran. You have been blessed already! :)

just this has changed me a lot i can control my thoughts,my actions i hear it before i go sleep, when i wake up in the morning, now i feel different about everything ive stop drinking, clubs, the immoral stuff and i feel pure like i was when i was younger

Keep it up! :)

i have no doubt that i have been blessed by waheguru

Neither does any of us here :)

now ive started to learn how to wear a turban

Congratulations! :D

i want to be on the path of changing my whole life so i thought the best way to learn is to live it and to become a singh

You were right, you are blessed indeed! :D

but by doing this im coming away from my friends they spend most their time in pubs, clubs

Don't worry about them. Give them time and they'll either go their own ways or come after you with a turban cloth in their hand asking you "Hey so how do you tie this thing?" :D

i have not got much in common with proper singhs ive tryed meeting at my local gudwara

No issues. I am sure and hope they won't judge you and will be your sangat.

my punjabi is crap and my sikhi knowledge is not very good

It will be fine, don't worry. Just keep learning.

plus im all tattood up,so im frowned upon i feel like i dont fit in

Once you are tattooed in the color of Gurbani, those tattoos will become invisible

so now im following sikhi by myself. so i just need some advice about what i can do.

For now, continue reciting Mool Mantar and always wear a turban. As you progress, quit removing any hair from your body. Start doing Japji Sahib in the morning, then start Rehras Sahib in the evening before sunset, then start Sohila Sahib at night before sleeping, then in a few weeks start doing all 5 Banis in the morning, so that you are doing all 7 Banis a day, then in a few months you can also start doing Sukhmani Sahib (few ashtapadis daily if you can't do it all in a day), by then you will start looking like a Singh, and then if you want you can start wearing the 5 kakaars to prepare yourself when you're sure you want to take Amrit, and then finally in less than an year take Amrit, and then keep increasing your Naam Simran, and one day Gurujee will give you His darshan :D

and when He does, you better make sure to request Him "Maharaj Ji, Mehtab Singh has been waiting forever, please pay Him a visit as well" :L:

Guest one more thing

wjkk wjkf.

good replies, i would just like to add something about the tatoos. If i were you i would consider getting them removed, as when you take amrit, we should be taking the roop of Guru Sahib and obv tatoos do not fit this category. Other than that, keep up tho good work, and dont worry about your friends, Guru sahib is your best friend
