Pure are the listeners, and pure are the speakers; the True Guru is all-pervading and permeating.

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੧ ॥

Salok mėhlā 1.

Shalok, First Mehl:

ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਕਾਗਦੁ ਕਲਮ ਧੰਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਭਾਂਡਾ ਧਨੁ ਮਸੁ ॥

Ḏẖan so kāgaḏ kalam ḏẖan ḏẖan bẖāʼndā ḏẖan mas.

Blessed is the paper, blessed is the pen, blessed is the inkwell, and blessed is the ink.

ਧਨੁ ਲੇਖਾਰੀ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਿਖਾਇਆ ਸਚੁ ॥੧॥

Ḏẖan lekẖārī nānkā jin nām likẖā▫i▫ā sacẖ. ||1||

Blessed is the writer, O Nanak, who writes the True Name. ||1||

Veerjeo, Writing bani is one experience i can never put rightly in words - its like you cease to exist, some force just takes over you, which you feel is running through the arm, and the fingers with which you hold the pen. It almost feels like Sri Guruji has put his hand on your head, the calmness within during that period is undescribable..

in puraatan times, writing gurbani was big big seva. since there were no printing press or anything, singhs used to make pothis by hand and distribute to sangat. for ex. baba deep singh ji, baba mani singh ji compiled handwritten birs of sri guru granth sahib ji, sri dasam granth sahib ji, and sent them to takhts.

i think there is a vaar by bhai gurdaas ji, or either somewhere in a rehatnama or it could be gurbani, im not sure, but it does talk about the phul of writing gurbani and handing it out in sangat.
