Those who do not forget the Lord, with each breath and morsel of food, whose minds are filled with the Mantra of the Lord's Name

Dhan se say-ee naankaa pooran so-ee sant. ||1||

- they alone are blessed; O Nanak, they are the perfect Saints. ||1||

Definition of a True Sant ^^

Very few gursikh sants today, must of them are gupt and just blend into the sangat.

Matheen veer/phen ji,

what you have said, dass is agreeable to that. The problem is some "sant samaj" follower/hardcore fans pushing for the idea that, if you want to meet your guru you need to have a "mahapursh" as a vichola. Without meeting one, ones gursikhi is not possible.

Without meeting a Sant , one cannot possible advance in their jivan.

The 'Sant' word in Gurbani does not exclusively refers to human beings who have achieved Param Pad , it has also been used for Guru Sahib and also saints(holy souls,sadhsangat).

The SANT astpadee in Sri Sukhmani Sahib does not refer to a Saint, it refers to Guru Sahib. Below pangtis sheds light on the SANT word being used for Guru Sahib.

ਸੰਤਕੀਸੇਵਾਨਾਮੁਧਿਆਈਐ ॥

(ang 265) ( keep in mind that Sant is a singular in this pangti, hence there can only be 1)

(if the pangti above refers to a an enlighten soul , then what is the below pangtee suppose to mean?)

ਹਰਿਕੀਟਹਲਕਮਾਵਣੀਜਪੀਐਪ੍ਰਭਕਾਨਾਮੁ ॥

(ang 300) ਟਹਲ = seva

both the pagtees are telling us the same truth.....

how can one do Seva of Naam.?..and through whom it can be done?

Seva of Sri Guru ji is the Seva(dhiavena) of Naam . This truth is further proved in this pangti:

ਕਬੀਰਸੇਵਾਕਉਦੁਇਭਲੇਏਕੁਸੰਤੁਇਕੁਰਾਮੁ ॥

ਰਾਮੁਜੁਦਾਤਾਮੁਕਤਿਕੋਸੰਤੁਜਪਾਵੈਨਾਮੁ ॥੧੬੪॥

ਏਕੁ ਸੰਤੁ = again it is singular.

If those who say sant does not refer to Guru Sahib, they need to ask themselves where does it leave Guru Sahib in the pangti above by Kabeer ji then?

Āṯẖ pahar nikat kar jānai.

Twenty-four hours a day, he knows the Lord to be near at hand;

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ਮੀਠਾ ਮਾਨੈ ॥

प्रभ का कीआ मीठा मानै ॥

Parabẖ kā kī▫ā mīṯẖā mānai.

he surrenders to the Sweet Will of God.

ਏਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥

एकु नामु संतन आधारु ॥

Ėk nām sanṯan āḏẖār.

The One Name is the Support of the Saints;

ਹੋਇ ਰਹੇ ਸਭ ਕੀ ਪਗ ਛਾਰੁ ॥੧॥

होइ रहे सभ की पग छारु ॥१॥

Ho▫e rahe sabẖ kī pag cẖẖār. ||1||

they remain the dust of the feet of all. ||1||

Sanṯ rahaṯ sunhu mere bẖā▫ī.

Listen, to the way of life of the Saints, O my Siblings of Destiny;

ਉਆ ਕੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਕਥਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

उआ की महिमा कथनु न जाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

U▫ā kī mahimā kathan na jā▫ī. ||1|| rahā▫o.

their praises cannot be described. ||1||Pause||

ਵਰਤਣਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮ ॥

वरतणि जा कै केवल नाम ॥

Their occupation is the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਅਨਦ ਰੂਪ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ॥

अनद रूप कीरतनु बिस्राम ॥

Anaḏ rūp kīrṯan bisrām.

The Kirtan, the Praise of the Lord, the embodiment of bliss, is their rest.

ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਤ੍ਰੁ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਏਕ ਸਮਾਨੈ ॥

मित्र सत्रु जा कै एक समानै ॥

Miṯar saṯar jā kai ek samānai.

Friends and enemies are one and the same to them.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ॥੨॥

प्रभ अपुने बिनु अवरु न जानै ॥२॥

Parabẖ apune bin avar na jānai. ||2||

They know of no other than God. ||2||

ਕੋਟਿ ਕੋਟਿ ਅਘ ਕਾਟਨਹਾਰਾ ॥

कोटि कोटि अघ काटनहारा ॥

Kot kot agẖ kataṇhārā.

They erase millions upon millions of sins.

ਦੁਖ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰਨ ਜੀਅ ਕੇ ਦਾਤਾਰਾ ॥

दुख दूरि करन जीअ के दातारा ॥

Ḏukẖ ḏūr karan jī▫a ke ḏāṯārā.

They dispel suffering; they are givers of the life of the soul.

ਸੂਰਬੀਰ ਬਚਨ ਕੇ ਬਲੀ ॥

सूरबीर बचन के बली ॥

Sūrbīr bacẖan ke balī.

They are so brave; they are men of their word.

ਕਉਲਾ ਬਪੁਰੀ ਸੰਤੀ ਛਲੀ ॥੩॥

कउला बपुरी संती छली ॥३॥

Ka▫ulā bapurī sanṯī cẖẖalī. ||3||

The Saints have enticed Maya herself. ||3||

ਤਾ ਕਾ ਸੰਗੁ ਬਾਛਹਿ ਸੁਰਦੇਵ ॥

ता का संगु बाछहि सुरदेव ॥

Ŧā kā sang bācẖẖėh surḏev.

Their company is cherished even by the gods and the angels.

ਅਮੋਘ ਦਰਸੁ ਸਫਲ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ॥

अमोघ दरसु सफल जा की सेव ॥

Amogẖ ḏaras safal jā kī sev.

Blessed is their Darshan, and fruitful is their service.

ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਰੇ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥

कर जोड़ि नानकु करे अरदासि ॥

Kar joṛ Nānak kare arḏās.

With his palms pressed together, Nanak offers his prayer:

ਮੋਹਿ ਸੰਤਹ ਟਹਲ ਦੀਜੈ ਗੁਣਤਾਸਿ ॥੪॥੩੭॥੮੮॥

मोहि संतह टहल दीजै गुणतासि ॥४॥३७॥८८॥

Mohi sanṯėh tahal ḏījai guṇṯās. ||4||37||88||

O Lord, Treasure of Excellence, please bless me with the service of the Saints. ||4||37||88||

When makhan shah lubana went to Baba Bakala there were dozens of Gurus sitting there calling

them as supreme.Wisdom of Makhan shah found the right Guru.

Genuine sant babas do not mislead sangat.They preach gurmat telling sangat that Guru Granth sahib

is their Guru.Gurmat oriented sikhs know who is fake sant baba.

The Real Sant Smaaj

On the 11th September 1959 at Gurdwara Akhand Prakash village Bhindar Kalan (Damdami Taksal), Great Sant Mahapurkhs held an urgent meeting regarding the changing of Guru Granth Sahib Ji's Mangals by the SGPC. These Great Souls of the Panth would not tolerate the Beadbi of Guru Granth Sahib Ji and stopped it happening. Some of the Mahapurkhs present at the meeting include:-

I think everyone agrees that there are real and fakes, the majority may be fake, however their must be real ones for fakes to exist.

I dont have a thermometer to measure who is or is not, however Guru Sahib Jee clearly states who is and who isnt. May they be Sants, Gursikh, Gurmukh, Bhagat, Bhai etc guru sahib jee tells us.

For me i met a real one, one who for 24 hours would just read or here gurbani, and spent all there life serving langar and leading the khalsa panth. A true, humble, pooran gursikh - Baba Thakur Singh Jee - For me i have been blessed with the darshan of GOD in the human form. They were a Sant, Brahmgiani, Sant, Gurmukh, Bhai Sahib, whatever one would like to call them, it wont affect their status in the court of akaal purkh.

"Aavoo sant pyario akath ki kari kahani, kare kahani akath keri kith dware paiyeh"

"Come, beloved saints, let us speak the unspoken speech of the lord, how can we speak the unspoken speech of the lord? which door will we find him"

is Guru Amar Daas Ji calling himself and speaking to himself in this thuk???

A Mahapurush or Sant is someone who is righteous and virtuous. Who can dispel your doubts and worries and heal your soul. He considers himself as just a servant and the title of Sant is usualy put on them by devotees or the sangat. A Sant is someone who does not have much ego as they live in the experience of Waheguru in themshelves and see that light in others also.

Dass has clarified this in my previous post:

In this pangti, SatGuroo ji is making this call to all Sikh(devotees) in Sadhsangat form by calling them ''Santoh" in the end.

Here is the full translation of the 9th pauree of Sri Anand Sahib.

ਆਵਹੁ ਸੰਤ ਪਿਆਰਿਹੋ ਅਕਥ ਕੀ ਕਰਹ ਕਹਾਣੀ ॥

Come, Beloved Saints, let us speak the Unspoken Speech of the Lord.

ਕਰਹ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਅਕਥ ਕੇਰੀ ਕਿਤੁ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

How can we speak the Unspoken Speech of the Lord? Through which door will we find Him?

ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਸਉਪਿ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਮੰਨਿਐ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

Surrender body, mind, wealth, and everything to the Guru; obey the Order of His Will, and you will find Him.

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮੰਨਿਹੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੇਰਾ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥

Obey the Hukam of the Guru's Command, and sing the True Word of His Bani.

ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਕਥਿਹੁ ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਣੀ ॥੯॥

Says Nanak, listen, O Saints(devotees), and speak the Unspoken Speech of the Lord. ||9||

An enlighten spiritual soul would have already acheived their aim. What would be reason for Guru Sahib for asking them to surrender their mind ,body and soul again in the 3rd line? (if some still insist it refers to a 'mahapursh')

Such souls have already obeyed HIM, what is the reason to ask them to re-obey Vahiguroo again?

The HUKAM given in the pangti above is same for all of Humanity and those who come to Sri Guru Ji's sharan and become his devotees.

There is a book by Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh ji called "Sant Pad Nirnai" . It will provide all the answers you might have regarding over this issue. Bhai Sahib has extensively quoted over 250 Gurbani lines to shed light in this issue.
