A Sikh jatha was severely beaten by the local Hindu residents in the vicinity of Siri Hemkunt Sahib. The Sikhs fought back bravely but they were greatly outnumbered. The Sikhs were beaten with swords and sticks, and were even stoned by the Hindus there. Some Sikhs were pulled by their hair and severely beaten.

The jatha took refuge in the Gurdwara of Gobind Ghaat. The Hindus then attacked the Gurdwara Sahib and damaged the building. To make matters worse, two dozen Sikhs were arrested for defending themselves.
