Hi There

I read a post on here about caste and that our parents want us to marry our own caste due to being in the same profession.

I wanted to know if there is any difference between a Sikh Kamboj from the punjarb (who are know as farmers) and Sikh Jatt from the punjarb (also know as the farmers)???

I know before sikhism was made we were all wither hindu's or muslims (sorry if this is wrong and please correct me)

What cant a Sikh Kamboh and a Sikh Jatt marry one another? and what will the parents says that the difference is to why this can not be/ or can be?

Any sikh kambohs out there please reply with your own veiws.

Thanks biggrin.gif

Hello? Anybody home? There is NO caste in sikhism. What are you rambling on about?

was that really necessary? is he not a human being who deserves to be spoken to with a little respect? manners cost nothing.

and to the original poster..there is no such thing as caste in sikhism. the older generation unfortunately, still tend to classify themselves as jatt, ramghariya, this that and the other. the only label we should be giving ourselves is khalsa panth. ive never heard of "kambohs" but a) yes, they should be allowed to marry "jatts" and b) such labels shouldnt even exist. i feel like im swearing whenever i have to say jatt/ramghariya etc.

please feel free to ask questions! we all have them, none of us are antarjami lol

humri jaath paath gurr satgur! waheguroo.

Waheguroo Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguroo Ji Ki Fateh!

Bruv, you should marry anyone you wish to, regardless of caste :) Caste is just a Hindu culture which is practised by most punjabis today. "Know people by the light illuminating them and do not ask their caste; for in the hereafter no one is differentiated by caste."

Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj

Waheguroo Kirpa Kare! And Starscream, quit being so hard on him, obviously he isn't educated much about Sikhi no need to put the guy off completly.

Waheguroo Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguroo Ji Ki Fateh!

Everyone must have heard "Love is blind".

So when in love; caste, class, religion etc aspects don't really matter.

Same thing applies to "Kaam".

ਛਿਵੈ ਕਾਮੁ ਨ ਪੁਛੈ ਜਾਤਿ ॥

छिवै कामु न पुछै जाति ॥

Cẖẖivai kām na pucẖẖai jāṯ.

sixth, in his sexual desire, he does not respect social customs.

Long time back i heard a Katha by Sant Singh ji Maskeen where he mentioned why the system of "Swayamvar" i.e (girl finding her own husband) FAILED. The practice was discontinued as things started to get ugly after marriage due to incompatibility.

So going for an Arranged Marriage is still the best option in the long run.

Thank you all for you comments and I know everyone has their own view on caste/sikhism.

I know we shouldnt follow caste however there is caste within sikhism if we like it or not and I know the only way to banish this is for the younger generation to marry out of caste and teach their childeren that they are sikh and sikh only.

As there is caste in todays world, how do you go about convincing the older generation to allow people to marry whoever you want?

all of you who use your family surname follow caste, those who use singh and Kaur dont.fact.

I use singh and I will always use singh.

My parents says I can only marry my own caste and I dont want to a I want to marry whoever I want, but dont want to hurt my parents at the same time. A bit confused!

Thanks again guys for your views on this.

Not always.

Fair enough. If your parents don't agree, I'm sure you can find someone from the "same caste" who will be a suitable match for you (and your parents).

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
