ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! (ਸਦਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ, (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ (ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ)। (ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹੁ) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਹੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪੱਕਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਤੇ, ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਚਲੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।ਰਹਾਉ।(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦੋਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਰੱਖਿਆ, ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਰਤਨ (ਵਰਗਾ ਕੀਮਤੀ) ਨਾਮ ਆ ਵੱਸਿਆ। (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਿਰੋਂ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦਾ) ਕਰਜ਼ਾ ਉਤਰ ਗਿਆ।੧।ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ (ਦੀ ਸਰਨ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੂਰਖ ਹੋਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਿਆ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੨।ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਖਸਮ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਨਾਥ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ ਬਣਾ ਲੈ।੩।ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਅਸੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ, ਅਸੀਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੇ ਹਾਂ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਅਸੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰਾਹ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੇ। ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਗੁਰੂ! ਸਾਨੂੰ ਅੰਨਿ੍ਹਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜਾ, ਤਾਂ ਕਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਪੱਲੇ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਅਸੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਹੋਏ ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਸਕੀਏ।੪।੧।

Gauree Gwaarayree, Fifth Mehl:

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਖਾਨ ਸੁਲਤਾਨ ॥

Kings and emperors are under His Power.

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਹੈ ਸਗਲ ਜਹਾਨ ॥

The whole world is under His Power.

ਜਾ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

Everything is done by His doing;

ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥

other than Him, there is nothing at all. ||1||

ਕਹੁ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਾਹਿ ॥

Offer your prayers to your True Guru;

ਕਾਜ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ਦੇਇ ਨਿਬਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

He will resolve your affairs. ||1||Pause||

ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਦਰਬਾਰੁ ॥

The Darbaar of His Court is the most exalted of all.

ਸਗਲ ਭਗਤ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥

His Name is the Support of all His devotees.

ਸਰਬ ਬਿਆਪਿਤ ਪੂਰਨ ਧਨੀ ॥

The Perfect Master is pervading everywhere.

ਜਾ ਕੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਬਨੀ ॥੨॥

His Glory is manifest in each and every heart. ||2||

ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਦੁਖ ਡੇਰਾ ਢਹੈ ॥

Remembering Him in meditation, the home of sorrow is abolished.

ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਜਮੁ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਕਹੈ ॥

Remembering Him in meditation, the Messenger of Death shall not touch you.

ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਹੋਤ ਸੂਕੇ ਹਰੇ ॥

Remembering Him in meditation, the dry branches become green again.

ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਡੂਬਤ ਪਾਹਨ ਤਰੇ ॥੩॥

Remembering Him in meditation, sinking stones are made to float. ||3||

ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਕਉ ਸਦਾ ਜੈਕਾਰੁ ॥

I salute and applaud the Society of the Saints.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥

The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is the Support of the breath of life of His servant.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੁਣੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥

Says Nanak, the Lord has heard my prayer;

ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਵਾਸਿ ॥੪॥੨੧॥੯੦॥

by the Grace of the Saints, I dwell in the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4||21||90||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਜੋ ਪਰਾਇਓ ਸੋਈ ਅਪਨਾ ॥

That which belongs to another - he claims as his own.

ਜੋ ਤਜਿ ਛੋਡਨ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਰਚਨਾ ॥੧॥

That which he must abandon - to that, his mind is attracted. ||1||

ਕਹਹੁ ਗੁਸਾਈ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਕੇਹ ॥

Tell me, how can he meet the Lord of the World?

ਜੋ ਬਿਬਰਜਤ ਤਿਸ ਸਿਉ ਨੇਹ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

That which is forbidden - with that, he is in love. ||1||Pause||

ਝੂਠੁ ਬਾਤ ਸਾ ਸਚੁ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਤੀ ॥

That which is false - he deems as true.

ਸਤਿ ਹੋਵਨੁ ਮਨਿ ਲਗੈ ਨ ਰਾਤੀ ॥੨॥

That which is true - his mind is not attached to that at all. ||2||

ਬਾਵੈ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਟੇਢਾ ਚਲਨਾ ॥

He takes the crooked path of the unrighteous way;

ਸੀਧਾ ਛੋਡਿ ਅਪੂਠਾ ਬੁਨਨਾ ॥੩॥

leaving the straight and narrow path, he weaves his way backwards. ||3||

ਦੁਹਾ ਸਿਰਿਆ ਕਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਈ ॥

God is the Lord and Master of both worlds.

ਜਿਸੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥੨੯॥੯੮॥

He, whom the Lord unites with Himself, O Nanak, is liberated. ||4||29||98||

ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਕਹੁ ਕਾ ਕੀ ਕਮੀਆ ॥੧॥

tell me, what else do they need? ||1||

ਜਾ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੀ ॥

Those who are in love with the Lord of the Universe -

ਦੂਖੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਭਾਗੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

pain, suffering and doubt run away from them. ||1||Pause||

ਜਾ ਕਉ ਰਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਹੈ ਆਇਓ ॥

Those who have enjoyed the flavor of the Lord's sublime essence

ਸੋ ਅਨ ਰਸ ਨਾਹੀ ਲਪਟਾਇਓ ॥੨॥

are not attracted to any other pleasures. ||2||

ਜਾ ਕਾ ਕਹਿਆ ਦਰਗਹ ਚਲੈ ॥

Those whose speech is accepted in the Court of the Lord -

ਸੋ ਕਿਸ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਲੈ ਆਵੈ ਤਲੈ ॥੩॥

what do they care about anything else? ||3||

ਜਾ ਕਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

Those who belong to the One, unto whom all things belong -

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੩੩॥੧੦੨॥

O Nanak, they find a lasting peace. ||4||33||102|

are afflicted by the disease of anxiety. ||1||

ਕਉਨ ਵਡਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥

Who is great by the greatness of Maya?

ਸੋ ਵਡਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਰਾਮ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

They alone are great, who are lovingly attached to the Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਭੂਮੀਆ ਭੂਮਿ ਊਪਰਿ ਨਿਤ ਲੁਝੈ ॥

The landlord fights over his land each day.

ਛੋਡਿ ਚਲੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਨਹੀ ਬੁਝੈ ॥੨॥

He shall have to leave it in the end, and yet his desire is still not satisfied. ||2||

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥

Says Nanak, this is the essence of Truth:

ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨ ਨਾਹੀ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ॥੩॥੪੪॥੧੧੩॥

without the Lord's meditation, there is no salvation. ||3||44||113||
