Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

Bhai Darshan Singh was a Gursikh from Dehli and was a captain in the Indian army. A few days before the start of the first war between Pakistan and India Captain Darshan Singh was given orders from his superiors who stated that his whole platoon were being sent to the frontline. As his section readied themselves for their first military action Captain Darshan Singh began to have doubts as to whether he would ever return back home to his family. Despite these thoughts playing on his mind Bhai Sahib kept all this to himself.

On their way to the frontline the military train carrying Bhai Sahib and his platoon stopped near Jalandhar for a few hours. As the soldiers got off the train to rest Bhai Sahib saw a Gursikh from his platoon walk away from the other soldiers. Bhai Sahib quickly ran after the Gursikh and asked him where he was going. The Gursikh smiled and told Bhai Sahib that he was going to the ashram of Nirmal Kutia Johal to see Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj and his beloved Sikh Baba Basant Singh Ji. The Gursikh then requested Bhai Sahib to accompany him. Bhai Sahib readily agreed and together they made their way to Guru Ji.

After being blessed with Guru Sahib’s darshan Bhai Sahib and the Gursikh then went to see Baba Basant Singh Ji. Upon seeing the two Gursikhs Baba Ji immediately got up and greeted them with open arms. He then told them that Guru Ji’s langar was ready and asked the sevadars to serve them. As the Gursikhs ate Guru Ji’s langar Baba Ji kept uttering, “Satguru Nanak Dev Ji Ang Sang Satguru Gobind Singh Ji Ang Sang”.

While Baba Ji was doing this Bhai Sahib commented that the langar tasted very nice. Baba Ji smiled and immediately requested the sevadaars to give Bhai Sahib some more langar and to fill up a jug so that Bhai Sahib could take some of Guru Sahib’s langar with him. Bhai Sahib looked at Baba Ji and thought to himself, “Oh Waheguru, what can I do? I don’t know if I will come back from this war to return that Jug”. Baba Ji smiled once again and said, “Gurmukho do not worry that Jug belongs to Guru Ji’s kitchen and he himself will make sure that it finds a way back.” As Baba Ji uttered these words Bhai Sahib began to cry.

After fighting and winning the war Captain Darshan Singh came back and returned the Jug to Guru Ji’s kitchen.
